Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright in the End
65

Coming back from the steaming pile of dogshit that was Hurley, it seems like Rivers Cuomo finally got a little bit of sense put in him as he seems to want to apologize to his fans for that drunken confession he made last night. However, I think he could've done that in a better way than putting 3 entire songs about it on his record. EWBAITE sees the return of producer Ric Ocasek, and while he did a great job with Blue and Green, this album seems to fall flat on its face in terms of the way it ... read more

Weezer - Hurley

This album shows that Rivers Cuomo and co. certainly are capable of a blunder every once in a while. This record has some of the most boisterous production I have ever heard, especially on closer "Time Flies," which I guess is supposed to sound like it's coming from a busted up cassette tape. "Where's My Sex?" especially is one of those songs where I come out of it wanting to hurt somebody or myself. It's so bad. Rivers Cuomo wails and screams all through ... read more

I don't even know with this record. Just listen to it and the music will speak for itself.

Weezer - Weezer (Red Album)

Weezer don't try to stick to any one particular sound with this record, and it's one of the many reasons why I think this is a marvelous album. Opener "Troublemaker" already sets the record off strong with goofy, non-serious lyrics about just being yourself. This album is full of surprises, such as the two 5-minute-long epics, "The Greatest Man that Ever Lived" and "Dreamin'" which I think are among some of the band's best work, featuring multiple acts to them and ... read more

Weezer - Make Believe

Weezer go for a new, more new wave-influenced sound with this one, and I dig it. The synth leads in tracks such as "This Is Such a Pity" bring a new mood and vibe to the songs that wouldn't have been there without them. Opener "Beverly Hills" is on the poppier side, but I really don't think anything else could've opened it. It's a magnificent pop tune. This record also has some emotional highlights, such as the heart-breaking "Hold Me," "Perfect ... read more

Weezer - Maladroit

This record came as a shock coming exactly 364 days after the Green album, and surprisingly, it's not just another Green. Weezer go for a surprisingly heavy sound with this record, once again not hiring a producer. New bassist Scott Shriner has some of his best moments on this record (Space Rock, Keep Fishin'), and the rest of the band is sounding extremely tight too. Pat Wilson's drums are a highlight for me too, they sound so abundantly clear and powerful. This record also comes with some fun ... read more

Weezer - Weezer (Green Album)

Weezer come back from a 6 year long hiatus with some of the most formulaic music I've ever heard. Not saying that it's a bad thing, just that this entire record feels bland and dry to me. Opener "Don't Let Go" is a nice fast-paced start to the record, followed by the eclectic "Photograph." Singles "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun" follow, with the former being a strangely unique sound for Weezer that I really want to hear more of. The latter track is ... read more

Weezer - Pinkerton
100

Pinkerton makes for a bold ass successor to Weezer's debut record, and it is not going to listen to any of your bullshit. Opener "Tired of Sex" makes for an incredibly abrasive and powerful opening cut, with a whiny Rivers Cuomo yelling and screaming like his life depends on it. The next cut, "Getchoo," follows suit, with the record slowing down pace very subtly but in a way that makes the album fly by. "Why Bother?" makes for a fun but yet somehow heartbreaking ... read more

Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album)

What a way to start off your career. Weezer step into the mainstream with their best foot forward with this record, having Ric Ocasek (yes, the dude from the Cars) on board to produce. Rivers Cuomo's songwriting is charming and goofy and doesn't make for anything too emotional on this record, but there really doesn't need to be. The weirdly folk-inspired sounds on this album make one to listen to if you really want to have a good time, reminding me of the things I listened to as a toddler (this ... read more

Olivia Rodrigo - SOUR
50

Olivia Rodrigo's debut album definitely feels like a debut album to me. Produced by Dan Nigro, this record encapsulates the teenage-angst energy in the songwriting really well. However, while there are some fun faster-paced cuts like "brutal" and "good 4 u," the slower and softer tracks make this record very all over the place, and honestly, quite forgettable as well. Lead single "drivers license" is somewhat of an exception though, it's a very heartfelt and ... read more

blink-182 - ONE MORE TIME...

"ONE MORE TIME" is the record that sees the return of blink-182's most famous lineup, Mark Hoppus, Tom Delonge, and Travis Barker; so naturally, one would go into this album thinking that it would be a grand return and that Blink were truly back as if it were still 2003. However, I feel like this album is more in the same lane as California, their first album featuring Matt Skiba as a replacement for Delonge, with the way this album is so compressed and overproduced. The drums could ... read more

Green Day - Saviors
75

With the band's last record, "Father of All Motherfuckers," it seemed like Green Day were headed in the direction of tacky, outdated garage rock that hadn't been relevant since the mid-2000s. With "Saviors," Green Day are on a major course correction, seeing Rob Cavallo sitting as producer for the first time since 2012's "Uno, Dos, Tre" trilogy.

The record opens with "The American Dream is Killing Me," a powerful satire about trying to live under the ... read more

Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS
90

GUTS is such an improvement over SOUR. Really all I need to say here. Except I won't, because this record deserves much more than that. GUTS starts off extremely strong with "all-american bitch", a cut that I can see coming straight from Weezer's Blue album. This track goes into "bad idea right?", a track where Rodrigo faces the challenge of choosing to get back with an ex, versus, well, not doing so, citing the former as being a bad idea. This song uses the cliche "the ... read more
