Yeah, it’s been a while since I listened to this band. Ever since I heard the debut, I checked out some songs from the other albums. Up to When the World Comes Down. And I did like what I heard. Especially from this one.
I actually liked a fair ton of these songs that Spotify put on my daily mixes. Those were Dirty Little Secret, the title track, It Ends Tonight and Top of the World. All great songs in their own right.
The biggest improvement Move Along has is the vocals and production. I really like how flashy it sounds. Almost giving neon pop punk vibes. I can’t tell if that genre is different from regular pop punk however, so please don’t yell at me if the comparison is somehow wrong.
Tyson Ritter this time sounds a lot more fleshed out. As you’d expect, he got better at singing since the debut.
The sound is very much pop punk again and has less emo-pop and pop rock moments, which was for the better for me. Since the songs on the debut felt like they were held back a little bit. Not here. The band just fires on all cylinders this time and it’s quite the blast. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more the album reminds me of RIOT! By Paramore. Just an endless fun time from start to finish, with its calm moments every once a while.

Dirty Little Secret is a really catchy beginning. This song is just screaming with energy. I love coming back to it because I’m gonna have a fun time listening to it every time. The cheeky lyrics make this a very fun sing-along as well.

Like most people, you might know the title track from a certain Bionicle AMV. But besides that, it’s just a really nice and motivational anthem about moving forward. The chorus sounds so addictive. I had it stuck in my head for the past month or so.

It Ends Tonight is also a very solid ballad with a really funny backstory to boot. According to what Tyson Ritter would say to introduce this song, it’s about wanting to kill your best friend.
But the real story goes something about a guitar tech guy who drove Tyson crazy at the time. He basically was acting like an old man, which made Tyson mad. So they wrote this song.
Kinda funny if you think about it, but it’s still got that great emotional core regardless. I thought this was about a breakup until learning about that just now.

The other single, Top of the World is less good than the other ones. It’s pretty standard, but I do like the chorus as usual. The percussion on it is also pretty good. The bridge is also probably the best part of the song for me.

Other than those 3 songs, it’s still a good album.
Stab My Back is a song with a lighter tone that reels back a little bit of that emo-pop sound, but still keeping it fresh for this album.

Change Your Mind is also a blast to listen to. It sounds just like Dirty Little Secret and it doesn’t stop there.
Night Drive has some surprisingly really pummeling guitar riffs. That I didn’t see coming.

Dance Inside specifically gave me some Paramore vibes with the instrumentation.

Straightjacket Feeling does kinda kill the mood a little bit after so many bangers. But I admit, the song is still pretty good. The singing on it is really solid for one and the strings are a nice touch too.

Can’t Take It though is a really interesting note to end on. A completely orchestral song with no guitars on it. Pretty unique. Even if it’s completely different in tone.

Seriously, this is way better than I expected it being. Don’t be put off by the 69 user score, this is genuinely kinda good.
