Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
98

'And if I told your secrets
The world'll know money can't stop suicidal weakness'

That is some usual suspects, fight club 6th sense level plot twist. I do not hear enough hype for 'U'. It perfectly depicts the dichotomy of Kendricks being. Throughout this album, Kendrick's use of telling stories from other perspectives is phenomenal. But 'U'... That is something else: potentially the best lyricism ever. Truly genius.

Earl Sweatshirt - solace
94

The smoke alarm beep sample has to be the best sample ever. It completely summarises this song / album. To listen to the persistent beeping Is irritating, but Earl expresses that to change the batteries is a task too trivial to be worth the little motivation required. That is what reaching the bottom sounds like: a smoke alarm out of battery.

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
97

As you pass through life, you'll meet people and hear stories which tell a tale of their home city. A glimpse through a strangely tinted window into another childhood; another life. This album, however, this represents Compton. I have looked through a window as clear as limpid water into Kendricks upbringing, and Kendrick has perfectly depicted every yoke and beauty of life. But no song does this as well as 'Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst'.

Death Grips - Exmilitary
85

This album reminds me of that movie trope where there is some exmiliatry psycho who goes on a vengeful killing spree. Not John Wick, more like dead man's shoes. But maybe even more disturbing.

Mort Garson - Mother Earth's Plantasia
70

I once gave this 41/100, said it was a 'tragic waste of time' but no, this is actually really wholesome. I like that idea, 'warm earth music for plants' :) makes me feel warm inside.

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs

WRITING POEMS WHILE LISTENING TO ALBUMS
PART 3 / IDK WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT
Kinda disappointed with this one (the poem not the album). Could of been better. I really need to branch out from sonnets
***
Winter love
It was going to be a warm winter.
Yep, a warm winter, cosy but still cold.
Logs by the hearth would crackle in cinder
Because a winter love had been foretold.

Mittens, blankets and the vain hope for snow
Like hot mince pies, a homely atmosphere.
The night time markets with slight ... read more

WRITING A POEM WHILST LISTENING TO AN ALBUM
PART 2 / uh we will see
Please leave other album recommendations which are, idk... poetically inspirational.

By the fallen oak tree.

She's there, yet its distant, rural England.
Evanescent lands which she saw at dawn.
There's a fallen oak tree past the heathland
A vestige to a time which is now gone.

Her childhood will leave and soon she'll be free
Like air to a zephyr, sticks to a stream.
She sat there once, by the ... read more

Harold Budd - The Moon and the Melodies
85

The date was December the 14th, 2025 (yesterday, hold the dramatic pause). Winter is the warmest season—because the clasp of a jacket, or logs by the hearth atop crackling cinder, are warmer than any sunshine summer has to offer. Summer may be the hottest, but winter is the warmest, and I would write a poem about that.

I left the house, and I wouldn’t come back until I had written that exact poem, perfectly. It had been a long time coming, so the first listen of this album would ... read more

The Avalanches - Wildflower
99

The first leaf
We all knew it would be a big summer.
80s joy nostalgia films burnt like sin
Because we all knew that a big summer,
A one-for-the-books summer would begin.

Friends, as thick as thieves, on bikes would ride hills,
Maybe an alien wrapped in white sheets
Or just something to spark the summer thrills.
A prospective wonder deceived the streets.

We all thought it would be a big summer
But that's never the case; it's autumns sprawl
That kills ambition, and ... read more

The Avalanches - Since I Left You
88

This album has my favorite sample in music EVER. I mean you'd be statistically more likely with, what is it, like 3 thousand samples. But that boat horn in Pablo's cruise, oh my. I would like to see how they'd do that live. I'd like to think they bring in a real boat horn.

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
90

This is the definition of pushing a genre to its limits. My first listen of this was the first time I had ever felt truly terrified while listening to jazz.

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
88

How did 2 people from the ugliest place in the UK, Grangemouth, show millions of people worldwide how beautiful the world is , with this stunning, ethereal album.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....
97

At first I didn't get it now, but now I understand. 'Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt' said it all. DJ Shadow is a student, and a teacher. He listens to music, and manifests his souls response into this work of genius. He is not just a creator, but a catalyst for the craft of the audible representation of the human soul. The music is coming through him, it was never his to begin with, he was the vessel which music, a wild beast, did inhabit. This album isn't pure craft, ... read more

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

' What do you think about love? '
' loveeeee 🥹 love is just a feeling (ã……´ ˘ `) '

Dave - The Boy Who Played the Harp
82

Dave has a great way of telling a story through a song with such clarity and having such subtle matching of mood through instrumentals. Fairchild is an amazing song.
''You either part of the solution or part of the problem"
Furthermore, I love an album which saves the best for last.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞
99

Well this took a terrifying turn. Through GYBE's portrayal of a twisted evil world, I do see some element of optimism for humans here. Maybe this optimism was more visible in lift your skinny fists but it is defiantly there.

Jiro Inagaki & His Soul Media - Funky Stuff
70

It's good study music but ultimately this album has achieved nothing and brings zero thoughts to mind.
Pretty vibes though. Hell yeah it’s funky stuff!

Talking Heads - Remain in Light
85

Groovy as hell. I'm a tiny bit disappointed because I thought this would be another 90 for me. But still, groovy as hell.

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
88

'The aim is to succeed and achieve at 21'
This album was just such raw, at its essence hip-hop, which did not miss a beat or a rhyme. Some sings did not hit as hard as others however. An incredibly essential hip-hop album of influence which will be forever present.

Petite League - No Hitter
77

This was a cool album. It lacked the occasional genius tracks that petite league can have, but it was consistent, and well paced.
