LE SSERAFIM is one of the biggest K-pop groups out there right now, and for good reason: they have some of the catchiest mega hits over the past few years under their belt. With that being said, I was curious to how their artistry would hold up under the more intense scrutiny of an album production, hence this review of UNFORGIVEN. Unfortunately, even taking into account the stereotypical sounds typically found in this genre, this LP falls quite flat. LE SSERAFIM attempt to dabble in ... read more
North Carolina-based EDM producer and songwriter Porter Robinson's debut LP, Worlds, stands as a bastion upholding modern electronic music. Long divisive among critics for being derivative, I had to give this album a listen as a longtime fan of the genre. What I took away was a lush and gorgeous soundscape that was glitchy, robotic, and surprisingly emotive. It's certainly a gem of a first listen. While the sound of the LP is certainly more mainstream-oriented, the band loses none of their creativity or unique sound design.
The tracklist is incredibly consistent, full of bangers nearly ... read more
Twenty One Pilots's Trench sees the musical duo adeptly wielding their genre-blending sword and excellent ear for production, resulting in a pop-rock album that is versatile, hard-hitting, and deeply emotional. Although the album suffers from consistency issues, especially towards the midpoint of the tracklist, the generous handfuls of standout singles and deep cuts helps to alleviate that problem. Add on top of the music interesting lore, and you get a great experience from front to ... read more
