Kim Petras - Brutalist

the best song on the album, so well written

Olivia Rodrigo - the cure
90

i am utterly gagged

Gracie Abrams - Hit the Wall
75

the best possible version of a very mid formula. gracie abrams isn’t making a masterpiece any time soon but she’s clearly making a slow departure from her comfort zone as an artist

Wolf Alice - Don't Delete The Kisses
95

straight up one of the best indie rock songs ever made

lorde is my absolute favourite artist, forever. melodrama is a toss-up for my #1 album, pure heroine is one of the best debuts of all time, and virgin is incredible. but i cannot defend the majority of this album. this is a husk of a decent idea filled with very little substance, spread across an absolutely slogging 40 minutes. the production aims for pretty but lands at lifeless, lorde's writing is only occasionally as compelling as on her other works, and all in all it feels like what no ... read more

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

revisiting my five favourites!! first up is phoebe bridger’s lockdown masterpiece, an album of shadowy hidden corners, a paragon of evocative lyricism, and an absolute testament to the emotion that music can convey. it’s terrifying, it’s devastating, it’s hopeful, and it’s simply one of the greatest albums ever created. if phoebe bridgers never releases an album again, this collection of songs alone is enough to make her an all-timer. do yourself a favour and ... read more

Lucy Dacus - Planting Tomatoes

a great comeback from lucy after an album i wasn’t crazy about

ADÉLA - KGB
80

not quite a ‘the provocateur’ level serve but a serve nonetheless

Holly Humberstone - Cruel World
75

as everyone expected this is a very solid, if not exactly boundary-pushing alt-pop record. i feel like it stumbles a bit in the second half after a couple of really great opening tracks, mostly when humberstone’s writing isn’t focused enough to carry the concepts of the songs across, but it ends on a truly stunning note. this is probably her best record yet, and it’s definitely not going to be the best of her career.

faves - to love somebody, cruel world, beauty pageant
