Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

A front to back blast to listen to. Every song is so much fun whether you're actively listening or just putting something on. Just excellently written rock music. It being made during peak post-grunge "rock is dead" discourse plays a small part in why I think this album is so cool. But what really puts it over the top is just how well every instrument plays off of each other and how the bones of each song is so creative and different from one another. Call and response sections, ... read more

Poppy - Negative Spaces

Very pleasantly surprised. I checked a few comments here and nearly all the positive reviews are comparing it to Linkin Park since they dropped at around the same time so I was afraid the rating for this was boosted because of a cognitive bias. After listening I do not think that is the case at all-- this is a solid album from Poppy.

I had only heard a handful of Poppy's older songs and a couple of their features before this. I didn't particularly enjoy anything I had previously ... read more

Inauthentic with nothing to say. Feels like a Fiver impression and the directions were to mumble with several voice filters and autotune on and crank all the knobs on FL Studio to the max as a joke. I think the loudness of every single beat made everything sound flat and uninteresting, the lyrics I could understand may as well have been AI generated which made it hard to care or even finish a single song despite all of them being around 2 minutes and the overall performance they give feels like ... read more

blink-182 - blink-182

For my money Blink-182's self titled album is the best and most complete album of theirs. Every chorus is amazing and memorable. Every drum fill is electric and adds so much flavor to each song, the drumming throughout is just fantastic. The riffs and basslines do so much for the atmosphere of each song and the trio are always complimenting one another for the entire runtime. Lots of great vocal performances and especially love the tracks where Tom and Mark hand it off to the other as is ... read more

Reprehensible. It's difficult to put into words why this makes me physically recoil and cringe without kind of subduing my own feelings towards this by just saying it's way too theater kid-core or that it's just zoomer cringe. This does to my soul what the human body does with the contents of its stomach when something irritates it. I can't help but pick up on such an unpleasant and performative vibe listening to a song like "Sick Boi" it's such a frustrating ... read more

What an interesting, charming and unique album. I listened to it on a whim and was NOT going into it thinking I would like it since I don't vibe with a ton of sample based "glitchy" beats and also the name of both the group and album kind of jumped out at me as tryhard-y.
The intro track is a thoroughly mesmerizing song and it grabbed my attention right from the start. Each song is so full of character and it's such a fun listen and absolutely defied my expectation of it ... read more

Jason Derulo - Nu King

I found it inoffensive and can't join in on the roleplay going on that it disgusts me and is an abhorrent affront to music and also God. Spicy Margarita with Michael Buble and Slow Low are actually pretty neat songs that pulled me in when I was having doubts about letting myself have fun listening. Tragically the more it went on and on the less fun I did end up having. Optimally the album is half the runtime. Other than the length it's pretty much all I could hope for from Jason ... read more

Senses Fail - Still Searching

Guy who has only seen Boss Baby: Reminds me of MCR

Buddy has a very no nonsense approach to lyricism and he's very front-facing and honest in pretty much every Senses Fail song ever for better or worse. Both in 2006 and now with hindsight it was certainly for better. While considering he was 18-20 years old during the writing of the songs on Let It Enfold You and Still Searching I believe the forwardness and energy of his lyrics and delivery translates beautifully through the music and it ... read more
