Upon first listen, I really enjoyed this album — however, the more I listen, the more vapid I find it.
I’m such a huge Bon Iver fan, but on this album — particularly throughout the second disc, Vernon plays it safe to a level which results in half an hour of uninteresting tracks.
First half didn’t do much for me. The second half was incredible.
I like Quad, but Vanisher tries so hard to sound profound, that it forgets to be enjoyable.
The ambition is clear, but the heart is lost in the effect-drenched layers of texture. At times, I feel like I’m being told to find meaning, rather than actually feeling it.
