Such an amazing piece of music. It’s so grand in its orchestral instrumentation, yet it feels so barren and woodsy by nature. Even though it’s presented in a Lo-fi fashion, you can tell that the album is intricately produced, that each note is carefully put together in harmony. It elicits sadness and hope with each song, and I can’t emphasize enough how unbelievably good On a Neck, On a Spit is. A great, strange pop record from one of my favorite bands. Strawberry Jam finds a strong balance between unique, experimental sounds and pop tunes that constantly bring me back to this record. FWIW, while Strawberry Jam has multiple fun, Beach Boys-inspired songs that I enjoy (ex: Peacebone, Winter Wonderland, Derek), For Reverend Green and Fireworks is one of my favorite back-to-back song duos on any record ever; it really makes this album that much more special for me.
A fantastically produced psych pop record. One of the first pieces of truly experimental music (albeit this isn't as much of an avant-garde project as Strawberry Jam and others among their discography) that I had listened to, MPP is a special, intoxicating album filled with drug-filled love ballads (In The Flowers, Bluish) and extremely fun tracks (see Summertime Clothes and Brother Sport) that is a standout record in Animal Collective's lengthy discography and in my record canon.
