this is the most melodic swans will ever be if i'm going to be honest. if you want to show a song by this band to your parents or a friend but don't want them to give you weird looks because you just played a song containing lyrics such as "i'm your stupid helpless child" to them, i'd recommend you to pick a song from this. seriously, some of the stuff here genuinely sound like they could be played on a classic-rock (or folk idk) radio station and won't sound out of place. it also ... read more
holy money is pretty much everything that i wanted from this era of swans. it combines the brutality of filth/cop (though not as heavy) with the self deprecating lyrics of greed. while greed felt like a slower album with cleaner production compared to their previous releases, holy money, to me, feels like being bashed everywhere in the body with various objects repeatedly by a group of thugs, but slowly to make sure you feel all the pain, and once it finally subsides, they begin hitting you ... read more
greed is when swans started to move away from the brutality from their first two albums and started to move in...whatever direction they did afterwards. this era of swans features tracks much much slower paced than their previous work and also much cleaner audio quality. also, gira's vocals. while his vocals on filth/cop feel much more like somebody pumping you up while you're lifting weights or just a pissed off middle class construction worker, his vocals on this album (and holy money) feels ... read more
one of the most fun albums i've ever heard tbh, even excusing the technical stuff, it's still a very fun album with a great and creative concept behind it (even though I still don't fully understand it). there are some parts where i feel like should've been different but they aren't very common or that irritating because of the sheer enjoyment i got from this record.
the album paints a very clear and beautiful picture thanks to its story as well, visualized the setting that the story takes ... read more
this album is best heard at night when you're really tired but can't sleep, so you decide to put in your earbuds (or headphones or whatever you use) and listen to something to hopefully tire your body and help you fall into a deep slumber
a pretty short album, only having 7 tracks and being 33 minutes long, pretty easy to pop in and play at any time you want if you feel bored. side 1 and side 2 feel quite different, with the first one utilizing repetition a bit while the second one features ... read more
blasted this album on shitty earphones i borrowed from a cousin at his house because mine were at home and my ears rang for the rest of the day, don't think the album had anything to do with it necessarily but it was an interesting experience
anyways, album's pretty good, well paced, liked when it's over and loved the title track, the others aren't too worthy of a note as they're pretty normal punk songs but they remain good listens
btw spotify fucked up the tracklist, no fair and the title ... read more
love being tricked into listening to 17 minutes of nothing but harsh static, thanks boris
still good though
socially awkward teenager core, fucking love it
been like a few weeks since i first heard this album and i can't stop listening to it, got most of the songs stuck in my head and not in a bad way. there's not really any clever metaphors in this one too much, it really feels like will is just being himself for most of it and it's kinda cute. love it to death
interesting electronic adaptation on a classical piece
there's a lot of sound effects in this one which might deter some from liking the album, but there's also a lot of really great, atmospheric and even beautiful musical moments unfound in the original that makes it transcend beyond just being a simple concept or gimmick, very interesting listen which i personally recommend to those who enjoyed the original suite and wish to see a unique take on it.
also feels like one of those albums that ... read more
the black disc is literally the greatest thing i've ever heard
it feels a bit slower and not as quick compared to some of their other 2 hour long albums, but i have literally relistened to this over 2 times in a single day (plus an additional listen to the black cd) because it's just that good
