There's something kind of timeless about this album I've grown to love and admire. A lot of the songs here give me heavy 50's rock n' roll vibes for some reason I can't really articulate. Maybe it's Julian's raspy vocals, or the guitarwork on the record, but at the same time they incorporate electronic drums among other modern recording techniques and styles that make this sound just as fresh today as I imagine it did 25 years ago. Detour certainly does have a few bangers scattered about here and there, but this whole project feels incredibly derivative of her contemporaries making far more exciting and interesting electropop music.
This is why my woke king Ed is the GOAT and certain chudmaxxing zionists and fence-sitters don’t need to make another Radiohead album. This album feels like an expansion on ideas they were trying out on AMSP—more sparse and atmospheric production, cryptic songwriting, and lengthier track times—and the end product is simply wonderful.
There's something deeply human about just fucking around, throwing shit at the wall, and seeing what sticks; and miraculously, Jane's managed to make an unrelenting, exhilarating collection of wildly fantastic sounds out of that. I completely get why this wouldn't click with a lot of people, but this is just so full of life and fun for me not to love this.
okay the autotune is kinda growing on me a little bit, at least during the chorus. I'd still prefer it wasn't there, but I don't really mind it.
