Paleface Swiss - The wilted EP
60

I can't figure out if I like the chorus to Withering Flower, like it kinda sounds a bit silly? but also sounds okay? very strange one. Let me sleep in my opinion is very early slipknot which is good but I guess for a 2 half minute song I can't really expect much. Instrument of War is not even a Paleface song to be honest, just sounds like other metalcore but it decent. The last track is predictably the ballad of the project and it's not bad but just doesn't have much going ... read more

HEALTH - CONFLICT DLC

Having only listened to Rat Wars and thinking it was very alright even though Ashamed is a great song, I always wanted to give that album/Health another chance. This chance came with this album and I can definitely say I see it now with Health. Obviously I doubt all their music will sound like this album since this is likely a sister record to Rat Wars but even though this may not be reinvention fans may have wanted but it's just more of a good thing which is fine. But yeah now Rat Wars ... read more

Dayseeker - Sleeptalk

I think this record alone shows why Rory is best regarded as one of the best vocalists in the genre and especially compared to the releases that follow this album his vocals are not nearly as processed which helps convey greater emotion in his voice which is one reason why this album is a bit more respected than Dark Sun. Another reason since this album isn't afraid to go heavy with a extremely catchy poppy chorus in a brighter tone pallet. I do think this album for the most part is paced ... read more

Dance Gavin Dance - Mothership
76

I think it's safe to say I did my DGD phase because apart from select songs that come in a shuffle I won't go out of my way to listen to a song let alone an album. Which is strange since I must of liked the music due to a fair amount of their albums being saved so I decided to give Mothership another go after a long time. And it's okay? Decent? I think this band may fall in the category of really good singular songs but somewhat average to decent albums. Because don't get me ... read more

Stray from the Path - Clockworked
83

A very worthy final album for this band,
A band that has only got better every album, never settled for a mediocre release and always looking to push boundaries with this sound. This album and Euthanasia are very on par for me and are great albums and I think I speak for most people to thank Stray for their music and endeavours to speak out against things happening in our world

Arm's Length - There's a Whole World Out There
86

Not the typical genre of music I'd listen to but I was interested as I'd heard the track You Ominously End and that was stuck in rotation for a while. So I listened to this album and I liked it but did not love it, In a way I was getting used to a sound I didn't listen to much but for the majority of the tracks on this record I did enjoy. But that 2nd listen brought a different perspective and it's a lot more of a complete listen this time around and it's honestly one ... read more

Dayseeker - Dark Sun

This album is weird because it's not bad at all, if anything its actually decent but I can't help but feel something is missing. The fact they have leaned more into the Poppier elements is great because it's been executed well enough and if anything heaviness in this album would feel out of place just like it does on the track Dreamstate which didn't need a breakdown. Do think the middle and end of the record does just gel into one, it's samey but not quite. What I will ... read more

ERRA - ERRA

It's funny when I first listened to this record when it came out I hailed it as one of the best records of the year and possibly that i'd ever heard. Now at that point not every record had come out, especially those at the end of the year which saw this album drop in the rankings slightly. For reference it ended coming at 13th which sounds bad but looking at that year in perspective and every album that came out then it's definitely a good album amongst a lot of other very good ... read more

Bring Me The Horizon - That's The Spirit
84

That's the spirt is as influential and important as Sempiternal to the genre because Bring me really showed that they wanted to expand their sound and do something different even if it didn't sound anything like previous record. I think Jordan Fish really helped facilitate this direction and really helps on this record vocally, not saying Ollie sounded poor as his singing is a lot better here than on Sempiternal but it's clear some moments he is really forcing some vocals, such ... read more

Architects - Hollow Crown

I'm annoyed it took me this long to get to this album cause it's so good. I had already listened to Early Grave and Follow The Water so I knew how aggressive this project was going to be but even now having listened to it i'm in awe how much more relentless it was. From the vocals to the guitar to the drums, it's extremely angry and I hear how much this album has influenced the scene especially in the beatdown breakdown sections. The cleans leave something to be desired as ... read more

While She Sleeps - SLEEPS SOCIETY
75

Some very individual good tracks in this album but still feels like something is missing in this record as a whole. Call of the void having the fans as the main feature of the song is very cool but as much as the end is a nice love letter to the fans it didn't need to be on this record but yeah not too bad

Termina - Dysphoria
65

It's not terrible. The best thing about this album is Andy's vocals and that's about it tbh. As many other reviews have highlighted, it's mostly generic metalcore slop with programmed drums and typical guitar work found in this genre. Par from a couple songs this album just feels like a Nik Nocturnal metalcore wet dream of just overused breakdowns and ideas that are way too safe to distinguish this project from the rest of the bands in this genre

I Prevail - Lifelines
72

Good songs are quite good but the generic ones are extremely generic. Feels as if that middle part to the end of the album they stopped trying , because apart from redoing a great song from the first EP there's absolutely nothing to write home about instrumentally or vocally. Feels like they just took the skillet approach for lyrics for most of the album and instrumentally wise as well, which is not a good thing. Not criminally bad but still not breaking the mould

Ice Nine Kills - Every Trick in the Book
82

The switch to a literature concept album was probably the smartest thing Ice Nine Kills could of done as without this idea conception the horror INK that we know now probably wouldn't exist but yeah this album is quite good and I think despite being corny (which doesn't mean much as INK has always been that sort of band) this album works quite well and Spencer and Jd's vocals gel so well together

Parkway Drive - Reverence
78

Metalcore lyrics across the board are mostly cringe and shit so i'm not sure why Parkway get more hate than others when it comes to that element, especially since the old 'Good' Parkway also had cringe lyrics by this logic but you won't see anyone complain about Romance Is dead. Regardless this album is more or less Ire but slightly expanded. Some interesting creative decisions but iv'e always felt Parkway Drive have amazing individual songs and some better than average ... read more

Asking Alexandria - See What's On The Inside
68

Embracing that hard rock sound was probably the best thing this band could of done after Like a House on fire. Some decent songs here but I won't lie that 2nd half of the album (mostly being that last 3) is not great at all

72

Not their heaviest project but for what they went for with Danny's hair metal cleans and big arena sound it works well. I won't like this album is not the most consistent but definitely some good individual tracks and unlike the last two albums there's a lot less open chugging breakdowns which is always good especially since that was Asking's bread and butter for the last couple of projects. Better than The Black.

Asking Alexandria - Stand Up and Scream
75

It's funny this album as a late 2000s screamo metalcore album it's a 10/10 but as just a normal record it's not amazing. I think what Joey did with the vocals is the craziest thing about this record, like listen to the demos of this album and it's like a different person in a bad way. Not even the best Asking album but as soon as they matured from this sound it's where they made the waves they did

I Prevail - TRAUMA
71

What's crazy this used to be in my top albums of all time, and I don't know If I just grew up or just came to realisations this just isn't for me but this album is extremely generic. Par Bow Down and maybe two others this album is extremely safe and generic rock music with heavier elements. I'm glad the rap is not as prominent as the album that follows this cause somehow they manged to get more generic and safe than this project. But yeah vocally there's not a lot of ... read more

Bring Me The Horizon - There Is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret.
83

Both lyrically and sonically this album felt like the bands magnum opus blending the best parts of count your blessings and Suicide season and the riffs and ideas really showed especially where a generic breakdown could of been written bring me knew that wasn't always needed
