If you're someone who's new to Lucki's music, doing a chronological listen of his discography is one of the most rewarding things you could do. That's because his music is great from the get-go. Unfortunately, when you eventually arrive at modern Lucki projects, you will often end up disappointed. This is precisely what's happened to me with Lucki's latest releases. I feel like the last actually "good" project he's released is the filthy project. ... read more
Judging by how absolutely incredible the singles were, I was expecting great things from this new underscores album. While I don't think this album quite met those expectations, it was still a pretty great first listen. I actually didn't really get into underscores until quite recently. If you've been on my account at all, you would probably know that Danny Brown is one of my favorite artists, and on his latest album 'Stardust' he really dove into that EDM/pop space, ... read more
Covert Coup is such an underrated banger of an album. It's aged so gracefully too, like Alchemist has genuinely one of the most impressive production catalogues I've ever seen. This album has such a hazy vibe that the Alchemist just excels in. There are some pretty insane beats on here, and Double 07 instantly became one of my favorite Alchemist beats as soon as I heard it. Honestly, every beat on here is fire. This was a really good showing for Uncle Al without a doubt. Scottie ... read more
We finally have a full-length project by tsubi club! This is just one of those groups you discover on a whim while listening to random recommended songs on Spotify. That's how I discovered them after all. Like many others, I discovered them through the song 'burbank house', which immediately captured my interest. Unfortunately, besides a couple of singles and some remixes, tsubi club was pretty damn inactive. However, the group is officially back with an album that's a lot ... read more
This is the least Yeat-sounding album out of any of Yeat's albums, if that makes any sense. ADL was really marketed and presented as one of Yeat's BIGGEST albums. Not only was it supposed to be big in terms of its impact, but it was also a double album. There was even an EP called "Dangerous Summer," which was essentially the prequel to this album. That EP might be one of my favorite Yeat projects he's ever released. So, I was pretty damn excited heading into this ... read more
This was a collaboration that I was pretty excited for, especially because not only is Denzel involved, but a lot of the people a part of The Scythe were pretty awesome on Denzel's last project. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed this project and it's fun, it's not really anything too special. It starts strong, and then slowly kind of just fades out in terms of its quality. I really like southern hip-hop, but this is just kind of one-note for me. There's not much versatility in ... read more
A rare instance where the deluxe surpasses the original (although it's VERY close). The discourse around slayr has been pretty... interesting to say the least. Whether it's people claiming he makes "burger" music or that he has no aura, this man has been getting slandered relentlessly for the past couple of months. It's pretty hilarious how many people were complaining about how long it was taking the deluxe to drop, despite the wait not even being that bad. Some ... read more
This is basically an EP, but you know what, I'll take it. These have been two of my favorite rappers in the Griselda collective. Just two extremely gifted MCs who are not only lyrically elite, but have an uncanny ability to float on any beat they're on. I'm not going to say that this project is some of their best work, but it is still really solid. The production was pretty good for the most part, but I would like to see these guys rap on some more interesting beats. Most of the ... read more
Kendrick Lamar's cousin, Minecraft YouTuber and fellow Openclaw user Baby Keem finally dropped a new album! For whatever reason, Baby Keem really didn't capitalize on the momentum that he built back in 2021. I think it's fair to argue that hits like 'Orange Soda' were really when Baby Keem started to pop. However, I think family ties propelled him into the stratosphere and put him on an entirely new level. Obviously, it's just one single, but that single had an ... read more
I'll tell you what, Hardstone Psycho legitimately got me excited about Don Toliver's music again. It was an album that was just pure fun. With the release of OCTANE, I was really curious to see what Don had in store. I had a good time listening to this project for the first time. It moves away from the rock-trap sound of his last album and is more adjacent to an album like Life of a DON. So, more or less its the sound you would typically expect from a Don Toliver project. Besides a ... read more
Without even listening to the project, if you know SahBabii, I'm quite confident you can guess what SANDAS stands for. Quite a genius use of this acronym, especially considering this came out near Christmas time in 2016. Missed opportunity for SahBabii to be dressed as Santa on the cover though. I think that would've been pretty funny. This mixtape was incredibly important for SahBabii, as it pretty much put him on the map. Pull Up Wit Ah Stick would go viral in 2017, with the music ... read more
IDK comes through with a new mixtape, and it's pretty solid. CLOVER was easily one of my favorite songs that dropped last year. It's got such a fun, bouncy energy to it that's very reminiscent of old-school hip-hop. The funny thing about that song is that it sticks out like a sore thumb on here. I think the main reason for that is that this project's aesthetic and sound are kind of all over the place. I guess it's a 'mixtape' after all, but this project just ... read more
Domo Genesis seems like the kinda guy to be your favorite rapper's favorite rapper. I've never listened to a Domo Genesis song or project before this one, but I've heard him on tons of different collaborations with some of my favorite rappers ever. It seems like he's a pretty highly respected guy, even if he wasn't nearly as successful as some of his Odd Future companions. When I saw that No Idols would be getting a streaming release, I saved it in my library just to ... read more
Glad I finally got around to listening to this album. Even though I'm no Mach-Hommy expert, I'm pretty familiar with him due to my extensive deep-dive into Griselda. He is one of the most creative and influential voices in the underground today (even if some people don't consider him to be underground anymore). #RICHAXXHAITIAN is once again another great display of what Mach-Hommy is all about. You honestly see quite a bit of versatility from him on here as well. The self-titled, ... read more
THEY SAY HAITIANS EATING CATS, I MAKE SURE MY DOGS EAT!!! I'm sure I'm not the first to mention this and definitely not the last, but it's been 8 years man! Damn! Honestly, I think Rocky is someone who kind of lost the spotlight that he had during the 2010's. His popularity has undoubtedly waned over the last 15 years. Not releasing an album for 8 years certainly doesn't help either. Regardless of his popularity declining, I really think there are still people (like ... read more
Stunt and Die 3 served as a really fun introduction to Ezcodylee for me. It's pretty evident that he's quickly making a name for himself in the underground. I was introduced to him through Slayr, who is another artist who is currently making a name for himself in the modern rage scene. Rage rock usually always hits for me, as the combination of these genres just makes a lot of sense. Ezco really approaches this album in a rockstar persona of sorts. It's kind of like what Carti ... read more
If I had to describe this album in one word, I would say it's ethereal. I don't know what exactly led me to listening to this album, but I've been kind of getting into shoegaze recently, and I was trying to find a gateway project to get into the genre more. Funnily enough, I think the "late night finds" trend kind of inspired this. The Cocteau Twins are a group that is often brought up as major players in the development of the genre, so that's how I kind of got ... read more
This was 2hollis's major label debut, and honestly it could've been so much better. Besides a couple of songs, I feel like the production on here is some of the most basic we've gotten from 2hollis. It's not necessarily bad, it just pales in comparison to some of the absolutely colorful production we've seen on his other albums. It's honestly a pretty stripped back and bare bones produced album, which isn't super surprising for 2hollis because his production ... read more
2 was the first project that really saw 2hollis narrow down a more concise sound, and really place an emphasis on an electronic sound. This album was just generally really consistent for me. Compared to "boy", I think this album might be more consistent, but it doesn't have the standout highlights like that album. Regardless, the quality level on 2 is still pretty high, and in my eyes its maintained throughout the entire project. I think some of the strongest songs on this album ... read more
White Tiger was the project where I really think that 2hollis started to showcase some serious artistic chops. Compared to his work prior to this, I think this is just a way more polished product, and contains the blueprint for some of the things that would make him so successful down the line. It's a hard album to pin down genre-wise, but it mostly sounds like a trap, digicore blend with some other elements mixed in. I think production-wise, this project has a lot of interesting things to ... read more
