BY FAR Slayyyter's best, most well realized and well executed album. Raunchy, uncompromising, ugly, uncomfortable. The beats hit harder than some heavy metal tracks, and Slayyyter's delivery is so loud and charismatic. I absolutely love her incorporating more vulnerable moments on the album as well, on songs like GAS STATION, OLD TECHNOLOGY, and most importantly BRITTANY MURPHY. The other songs manage to convey Slayyyter's messy, edgy personality in the sickest way as well.
This is a major step forward after the Charlie's horrendous last album. The production has more flavour to it, the collaborations are interesting and the themes Charlie explores are more mature. HOWEVER - this is still nothing spectacular. Charlie has this problem where he's so talented - but can't seem to add any sort of spice to his songs. While 'Jean' definitely lacks the big, explosive moments that 'Dawn', Yebba's first album has, it is still a great collection of some absolutely stunning songs. The chord progressions of these songs are so unique and interesting to me, and give the album a fascinating colorful tone even when the instrumentals themselves are, for the most part, acoustic and subtle.
