Reneé Rapp - BITE ME
49

There's promise here but the vocal fry in her delivery is a bit much for me, unfortunately.

I like Why is she still here. The smoky blues instrumental goes well with her poppy voice (when she sings full throated).

Tame Impala - Deadbeat
42

Gawd, the beats are so simple, annoying and most important, boring, on most of theses songs. Reminds me of the old days when someone would burn shitty house music to to a CD and try to 'give it away' it on Venice Beach.

Loser is the only song that really stuck out to me. Afterthought and Dracula were decent cuts.

Hard pass.

Like: Dracula, Loser, Afterthought

meh: My Old Ways, Piece of Heaven, Obsolete, End of Summer

Dislike: No Reply, Oblivion, Not My World, Ethereal Connection, ... read more

Mother Mother - Nostalgia
58

Just give me the first 5 songs and you can have the rest.

Station Wagon is classic Mother Mother. Love it.

Like: Love to Death, Make Believe, Station Wagon, Better of Me

meh: ON AND ON, Namaste, little mistake, Mano a Mano, Nostalgia, To Regret

Dislike: Finger, Me & You

Chevelle - Bright As Blasphemy
75

I like this new Chevelle. It's kind of like more effervescent version of Tool.

Nice, cohesive album that hits a lot of the same notes throughout its runtime, but they are mostly the right notes.

Fit For A King - Lonely God
51

A+ for Trey Celaya, drums definitely stood out to me the most. Otherwise, this is some pretty generic metalcore that does nothing for me.

Bleed from Within - Zenith
78

Solid album. This works for me as workout or spreadsheet metal. Groove metal like this feeds my core.

twenty one pilots - Breach
69

Not all the way on board yet. Solid album but hasn't quite hooked me.

Drum Show and Downstairs are favorites.

Wolf Alice - The Clearing
80

Great album, falls off a tad in the second half. First 4 songs are prime cuts.

Like: Thorns, Bloom Baby Bloom, Just Two Girls, Leaning Against The Wall, White Horses, The Sofa

meh: Passenger Seat, Play It Out, Safe in the World, Midnight Song

Dislike: Bread Butter Tea Sugar

Bailey Zimmerman - Different Night Same Rodeo
35

This could easily be AI. There's absolutely no soul to it.

Architects - The Sky, the Earth & All Between
45

I just can't handle the cleans. The rough vocal sections are better but there's 100s of other bands that can do this djenty alt metal sound with better cleans. Sorry Architects fans, I can't jump on this bandwagon.

Noah Cyrus - I WANT MY LOVED ONES TO GO WITH ME
59

Gave it a shot but guess this isn't my scene.

Like: I Saw The Mountains, Don't Put It All On Me, Way of the World, Love is a Canyon

meh: What's it all for?, Long Ride Home, Apple Tree, Man in the Field, With You,

Dislike: New Country, XXX

Franz Ferdinand - The Human Fear
50

I think Franz Ferdinand is solidly a one album band for me. First album was their high water mark by far. This is OK, but old Franz made me feel like I was headed into a semi-dangerous club in an alleyway off of 1980s Times Square. This new album is much more...disneyfied. Reminds me more of Coldplay than Franz Ferdinand.

I'm all set on this one.

CMAT - EURO-COUNTRY
62

It's aight. Vocals I like but the music underneath the vocals is a bit...generic. I feel like something is off in the mix as well. Almost comes off a bit metallic, like maybe some over-compression?

My Morning Jacket - is
80

My Morning Jacket brings a sense of comfortable normalcy that doesn't break barriers but remains interesting throughout.

Has a distinctly classic feel to it. Case in point, I can hear your love, a love letter to Roy Orbison and George Harrison if I've ever heard one. Beginning from the ending is a spitting auditory image of America.

Like: Out in the Open, Everyday Magic, I Can Hear Your Love, Time Wasted, Beginning from the Ending, River Road

meh: Half a Lifetime, Lemme Know, Squid ... read more

The Mars Volta - Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio
94

Mars Volta finally takes their valium and chills the fuck out.

Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio comes off as a more psychedelic version of Santana's classic album Abraxis, but just a touch too much fat to be 100% cohesive. Still, after a few listens I'm warming up to be quite a big a fan of it. You really need to listen to the whole album here, single cuts won't be as impactful without hearing the context of the songs that come before and after.

There are some beautiful ... read more

Shadow of Intent - Imperium Delirium
78

Imperium Delirium is 2025 tech death AOTY.

The heavy mix of deathcore and tech death is perfect and consistent from front to back. Where it lacks innovation it makes up in consistent ear thumping intensity and tempo cover to cover. Drumming from Bryce is consistently badass throughout the album.

Apocalypse canvas is 🔥.

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl
35

First song was good, a couple were meh. Overall just a boring soulless album that blends into the background (which is a bonus).

Maroon 5 - Love Is Like
49

Adam sounds so old and out of touch on this album. It's not totally soulless like their last few albums but mostly just awkward.

Pinkshift - Earthkeeper
92

This is my happy place.

Igorrr - AMEN
85

Gorgeously dissonant avant garde metal.

Amen is Igorrr's best and most accessible album to date.

Most of Igorr's albums come off as study pieces in the art world, just to see what works and what falls flat. Amen is the first album that I heard some cohesion. Each song stands on its own merit but the buzzy trippy production elements bring continuity on each song.

I like every song, but blastbeat falafel, ADHD, and Ancient Sun are standouts.

On Systematic - Somewhere in Between
"@llamaqwerty feel like it's pretty generic metal. Weak nu metal i guess. I saw these guys open for good bands a bunch back in the day and they never impressed me all that much, so went with the most generic typology i could think of at the time i reviewed it."
On By Storm - My Ghosts Go Ghost
"@OnsPascal Everyone digests music differently. Like I said, I respect the artistic merit here, just not for me, probably for the exact reason that you provide here. Doesn't mean I shouldn't share my thoughts."
On HomeSession3's review of Soen - Reliance
"@HomeSession3 nice review. Agree on a lot of points, and I like the straightforward alt-metal sound, but found it a bit conservative given their talent. I wish they would lean just a bit more into their prog roots and juice the instrumentals a bit."
On Systematic - Somewhere in Between
"@Kendrickgoatedg they were contemporaries... but yeah, pretty close in sound. I think they were trying to hit a nu metal version of soundgarden. Maybe a bit better musically but a bit generic."

"Agree 💯. The Narrator is still stuck in my head, nothing from this album is anywhere near as innovative and has the ear candy that the first album had."

On Maggie Lindemann - HEADSPLIT
"Cool. I'm going to have to check out the first two albums. Thanks!"
On DiceBloke's review of (Hed) P.E. - DETOX
"the self-titled album is much better. The lyrics are still a liability but the music has a lot more originality and funk to it. There were some good musicians in the original line-up, but they're all gone by now. It is tough to put the self-titled album in any one genre, but this album is kind of a one-trick pony."
On DiceBloke's review of (Hed) P.E. - DETOX
"Lyrics have been a problem with this band for its whole existence."
On Inherus - Beholden
"I have to be honest with you, XsVrits...I don't know what you're trying to convey with your statement here."
On The Lemon Twigs - Everything Harmony
"Yeah, maybe t's not so much the harmonies as it is the actual lead vocals remind me of a mix of weird Al and Tiny Tim. The harmonies are actually decent, but that only exacerbates the weak lead vocals. Maybe that's my issue with it. I don't know, every time I turn this on to try to analyze it I just get a visceral reaction to something in the vocals."
