pretty decent shoegaze. no boundaries pushed or anything new, pretty easy to listen to, but nothing entirely special.
can't believe i am only the 24th person to rate this. essential for any math rock enjoyer. please check out their entire discography it's insane from front to back.
great recommendation from spotify discover weekly. really smooth and satisfying math rock.
I feel like this album takes Jazz Fusion and throws in a bunch of new art pop and poetry and prog elements and comes out with a coherent vision. Great smooth listen. Ya Ya Breathe hooked me and I feel like there's such a pleasant flow throughout the entire record. Definitely up there and a recommendation to anyone who likes Art Pop.
folk fleet foxes and neutral milk hotel lovechild but if they were from the PNW instead of athens georgia. very very interesting and i will absolutely have to dig into the lyrics more. felt like it was a slow build up all the way through. I really enjoyed Odalisque and the closer track. great instrumentation, i think they use accordion very well, i love when a band incorporates an instrument into their foliage that's a bit out of the ordinary, whether its the sax in a lot of crank wave, or ... read more
definitely liked their previous EP a lot more than this, however it's still really good and i appreciate the influences they've taken from and the direction they're going. lots of high moments especially in "piano instrumental", which feels like anything but the title, but i feel like some of the songs on here can be forgettable. excited for more from these guys though and their concert Did Not Disappoint.
gorgeous album. picked up on a whim from the record store & i love how efrim's vocals compliment the record. this one is crucial listening for the godspeed "how can an album without lyrics be inherently political?" crowd
black midi breaking up seems to be the best possible thing for greep. he seems so infectiously passionate in his interviews and i am so happy the magician finally has a studio release. holy, holy is amazing but i was very surprised at the quality of as if waltz & terra. very very solid all the way through. definitely will revisit this in the coming months.
bellowing, beautifully mixed. ive heard the bootlegs a million times since february and will continue to listen a million more. side D is not listed on here but completes the record much better than grey rubble does. babys in a thundercloud is one of the best tracks they've ever put out.

There's a lot of weird moments on this tape. A lot of moments that make you go "oh shit, this tracks so well", and some stuff that is just completely out of the norm for Godspeed. Efrim really had a lot of interesting ideas for this tape but the production & mixing is non-existent that it can be a pain to listen to at points. Definitely worth listening to if you enjoy the rest of their discography, and might get you into more of Efrim's solo stuff.
Amazing album. Great instrumentation all the way through, can't really ask more for one of the most interesting fusion albums ever. If you're only going to listen to one song, listen to Prologue. Can't imagine a more perfect closer and I did not know the sax breakdown could go that hard, just a phenomenal album all the way through and one of the stronger albums released this year.
As a huge Elephant 6 fan I'm surprised it took me THIS long to get into Of Montreal. I'm pleasantly surprised. Definitely some highlights on here like "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal", I would love recommendations of more songs like this. I can see Beach Life-In-Death definitely drew some inspiration from here, the driving force that continues and builds up throughout the whole song is fantastic. The album as a whole definitely has that E6 feeling with a nice twist on it.
many people will call this record disappointing, but I think viewing this as a single track rather than 4 separate ones definitely helps with the vision. Personally I don't really listen to the album in full much if ever, but Piss Crowns is definitely one of their better tracks, and Peasantry is probably where their drone feels most refined. The middle 15 minutes though are alright... Would recommend a full listen through, but mostly just Piss Crowns.
I think this album is a great return to form for Godspeed, I don't think it'll be as good as the studio version of this year's album. I think the third suite from Government Came through Cliffs Gaze is probably the most aurally pleasing with buildup and crescendo, but I do have a soft spot for Glaciers and Job's Lament. Honestly very solid all the way through and I think Godspeed is headed in the right direction to make something as impactful as their F#-Yanqui run.
This has gotta be the most excited I've ever been for a new album drop, (maybe aside from Godspeed's new one in September, that live show was awesome) and it definitely did pay off. Connla's Well is a good but not mindblowing introductory piece, the middle 3 songs that they've released as singles have hit hard since their release, and Resisting Resistance definitely surpassed my expectations from the live version, these guys are on fire and I can't wait for their first full album.
Not quite sure why people hate on this record so much. Obviously their worst by a long shot but it's still Godspeed, I might be a glazer but I feel like it's impossible to make something bad. The riff on Bosses Hang, the end of Anthem for No State, even on Fam / Famine there are some enjoyable and memorable parts. Worth a listen every now and again.
I don't mean to be corny or anything but this is a devastatingly beautiful record. Starts off more devastating and then morphs into beautiful. The songwriting is absolutely poetic and just cements Adrianne Lenker & Big Thief into the "indie giants" of the time, however much of an oxymoron that sounds. Beautiful from top to bottom, heart wrenching in the beginning, Real House & Sadness As a Gift are as raw as it gets on this album. Vampire Empire is a personal favourite of ... read more
I'm shocked that I haven't heard this album before. Insanely good folk. The title track and Lorelai are beautiful examples of this. Lively folk that feels good to listen to! What more could you ask for...
Good ethereal pop. I feel like it's a little limited on what they accomplish in this EP, but what they do showcase they showcase beautifully. Vienna (In Memoriam) and Wild Again are two great examples of how the harmonies and acoustics blend together, however it can be a little bit repetitive and same-y. Overall great listen and am looking forward to more from them.
I quite like Big Thief. Adrianne Lenker's voice is brilliant on this and the entire band really builds around her strengths. Simulation Swarm and Sparrow are the two highlights I have off this album, and I think Simulation Swarm may be one of the best songs I've heard come out in the last few years. Great, consistent album, I'd recommend it to anyone trying to get more into the Indie Folk scene.
