CMAT - Crazymad, For Me

I'm ashamed to confess that I didn't even know this album existed until CMAT appeared on the Off Menu podcast, but what a simply fantastic record it is. Riddled with the ear-wormiest, most brain-tingling hooks of 2023, as well as the smartest, funniest and most devastating lyrics of the year for good measure, Crazymad, For Me is a triumph of pop music, heralding an artist who is sure to be one of the leading talents of her generation. The line 'I'm the Queen of England, drinking baby's wine; I'm ... read more

As many have already pointed out, this re-recording oddly sounds worse than the original, a fact not helped by the rather lacklustre and sluggish vault tracks. A strangely disappointing effort that maybe shouldn't have been churned out so soon after the rather excellent Speak Now re-recording.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - The Silver Cord

I love the production on this album: it's so tactile and full of character, and perfect for Billy Woods and Elucid's smart and incisive bars.

Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS

I liked Sour a decent amount but this is a remarkable step forward. Guts is funnier, smarter, more self-aware and more heart-wrenching than its predecessor, and by far the best pop album of the year.
