I absolutely love the concept here, a love letter to dance music across the West and South, getting people to move and live in the moment, there isn't a verse or instrumental I can complain about... and absolutely NONE of it is sticking with me. Completely in one ear and out the other. I don't think this has ever happened to me with a Tyler project before??? Also please take a course on singing, I like unique outsider voices, I like embracing something you're ashamed of, but it ... read more
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 20
Yeah, ripping the bandaid off now, it's not as good as Snö. But really, how CAN you surpass a flawless 10/10 downtempo album? I appreciate Ujico* for cutting his losses and making an awesome little accompanying piece instead! Celebrating its predecessor's 5 year anniversary, Lumi crosses the border from Sweden to Finland to show what a more quiet and subdued version of modern Snail's House production can sound like.

SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 19
Now *this* is how you do an album sequel. Not just improving on the original formula, but completely reinventing your sound itself. ujbeats vol.1 is quality lo-fi hip hop when it tries, but I think most can agree the "genre" had become pretty overdone by then, almost corporate. What good is another lo-fi album? That's what vol.2 is hear to answer, and just like Guardians of the Galaxy, it's better in almost every ... read more
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 18
Another summer break, another attempt at regaining motivation for reviewing!!! Pixelize is a weird EP for me, cause it came out around the time I started getting more into both mainstream and music nerd albums, not just vocaloid and kawaii future bass. As a result, it's the first Snail's House project I have zero nostalgia for. That doesn't mean it's bad at all though, just... different. It feels like a turning point in his sound ... read more
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 17
I'm hoping to get some more motivation to catch up with this series before summer break ends... not only has writing my own stories burnt me out on reviewing, but I also feel like there's a certain *shift* in the vibe of Ujico's music around this period. Maybe it's the lack of nostalgia going into my first listens of these projects, or maybe it's a cleaner sound developing? I think I'd categorize 2013-2016 as the Classic ... read more
Em putting out a somewhat decent song at this point in his career is genuinely a miracle. Yes it's very obvious nostalgia bait for The Eminem Show era, yes it works on me better than it should, and YES there were lines that fell reeeeeally flat, but I guess his older music was always desperate to provoke a reaction too, so it's not really surprising. Something about modern Em flows just works better over classic Em production, it's kinda like wrapping a pill in cheese so your dog will actually ... read more
I like the experimentation here! Really, the production is all around stellar, staying true to their roots in breakcore and goth while adding some noisier elements, it's just... yeah the vocals let it down a little. I still love Min's voice a ton, and I'm confident André could sound absolutely incredible with a bit of training, cause there are some really shining moments like on nothing but evil, he could really strike a grand Ian Curtis-type performance, but it ends up muddied and ... read more
While waiting for a Brazilian rock album from Astrophysics I decided to tide myself over with yet another Brazilian rock album and HOOOOOLY SHIT THE HYPERBALLAD INTERPOLATION ON FOR M. MY JAW IS ON THE FLOOR. SWANS BUT GOOD
Kanye, please. Stop dropping albums in early access. It's the same reason I've never liked Life of Pablo or Donda either. While seeing behind the curtains into the process of album curating can be fascinating, it never washes away the feeling that this was a rushed and incomplete effort from the man. Is this the good version of the song I heard at that listening, or did you change it on a whim? Maybe your sample never got cleared cause you're all-around nasty? Is this Theseus ship even the same ... read more
Even if the Drop series has never had the greatest reception, I've always liked seeing Simbi experiment on these side EPs! They're not something I take too seriously, maybe a song or two stays in my rotation a bit, but after dropping some acclaimed projects it definitely serves as a study on expectations, when a bunch of new fans are accustomed to the lush orchestration and samples it's a super sharp shift. I'm just a sucker for club/house music and M.I.A.-type production ig, not really ... read more
Wait this one's way better than the last actually. Are its ideas more consistent and focused? Is it not tied down by the need to sample Pokémon SFX every 5 seconds? Am I suffering from Stockholm Syndrome? Yea.
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 16
Wait, is that... a score in the yellow? Yes, this is AOTY's self-proclaimed #1 Ujico* stan telling you that the project following what might possibly be my favorite album ever made... is his worst. Not bad by any means! It just kinda... comes and goes? Really, for a catalogue that creates such strong synesthetic reactions, this one feels like a small drop in the pan. Like, really, "love songs" is an even more ordinary name than "ordinary ... read more
ok even as a chronic EDM enjoyer i cannot defend this one man i'm sorry
Wait, why is this rating so low?? This is like, one of the two actually GOOD ones to come from this collab??? This and the Inabakumori one for sure. Everything else has either been a bit boring but with heart, or a producer obviously phoning it in, but the amount of effort that went into this was crazy. Yeah it's cheesy, but the sheer amount of creative puns that work in both English AND Japanese is impressive, and Mitchie went out of his way to play through every single mainline Pokémon ... read more
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 15
I just wanna give a little disclaimer here to say that this review is probably gonna be very long, very personal, and briefly touch on some very dark subject matter. There's a reason why this took me so long to properly write this whole thing, especially with college starting and procrastination hitting like a truck, but I hope I can do this album justice, because it might not be the best Snail's House album ever made, certainly far from the best ALBUM ... read more
SNAIL'S HOUSE REVIEW MARATHON: PART 14
I remember around 2018 moving into freshman year the #1 place I would go for my Snail's House fix was SoundCloud, which was somehow unblocked on chromebooks at the time. Even if the SoundCloud era is mostly behind us, it was always fun to get little scraps and sneak peeks from your favorite artists, and that's how I managed to stumble upon a little page called "ujbeats"... it was just a side project of lo-fi study music and remixes which I ... read more
A lot has changed since I gave Attention a positive review, and all I can say is... yeah the curse of Lana is definitely working overtime!!!
