Jarren comes through with some of his best bangers and most personal songs too. He has a unique style and has a lot of energy in his delivery, which is a nice contrast to a lot of the other hype music with similar production. His flows are still fast and his lyrics are still witty and funny as well, and he's not afraid to get personal either. The negatives of this album lie in the some of the hooks and some of the more generic production, but Jarren doesn't have one bad verse on this whole ... read more
This tape is a decline for Trip in most ways such as originality and actual rapping skills, but there are still some gems on here. A lot of the tracks also seemed to be aimed at a more mainstream audience, and a few of them are pretty catchy. Best tracks- Dieverse, Noddy Trip, Xanoxy, Whatchu Kno About Trip, and Ignant.
Clams returns with his debut album, and it's a pretty solid effort. I found myself returning to the instrumentals more than the full songs with his collaborators. I like the idea of putting both on the same album though, it gives it the option. I actually dug some of the non-Hip-Hop tracks too, but mostly what i liked this album for was the production. Best tracks- Be Somebody, All Nite, Skull, Into the Fire, A Breath Away, and Blast.
Kirk comes through with a solid beat tape, really quick and to the point with some nice sample chops and drum loops. Best tracks- 47 $tyle, Answer2Luv, Milkcrate, and [A]ngelic[A].
K.A.A.N brings another killer EP, I really dig all three tracks on it, and wish there were more, he has such a dope style and an insane flow
I give this album hugs props for really paving the way for Hip-Hop in the 80's, but that still doesn't make up for the terrible cuts like Scorpio. Best tracks- She's Fresh, The Message, and The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steele.
Q brings his best album yet, with very dark production and nasty flows. This album does have a decent amount of filler though. Best tracks- Groovy Tony/ Eddie Kane, Ride Out, By Any Means, Dope Dealer, Str8 Ballin, and Tookie Knows II.
Logic brings a pretty basic hype/ turn up mixtape, but that's not to say the tracks here aren't well made. Logic has some dope flows, pretty great beats, and most of all , he has fun with this tape and I think that energy translates pretty well, even if he isn't saying much. Best tracks- Flexicution, The Jam, Wrist, and Super Mario World.
This project is very hit-or-miss. There are some fantastic tracks like Dynasty, 16 Shots, and There's Alot Going On. New Bae is absolutely awful and Liquor Locker isn't much better. Overall, there were more hits than misses though, so altogether it's a pretty good tape.
Chance brings another great and and positive mixtape, this time with a gospel influence. He still keeps his signature style, and this project benefits from that as well. Best tracks- No Problem, Blessings, Same Drugs, Angels, How Great, and Blessings.
Another good instrumental tape from Clams, not near on the level of his 1st or 2nd ones, though. Best tracks- Hell, LVL, Bird Call, Bookfiend, and Cold Feet.
Kendrick can't do wrong, even his B-sides make a pretty fantastic album. Best tracks- 02, 05, and 07.
Alex Wiley brings another interesting and unique project, which has a bit of a rough start, but really brings it toward the end. He's a great songwriter and that really shows here. Best tracks- Solo, Spark Something, Right Right, and Top of the World.
Very trippy and atmospheric instrumental album with a unique style behind it. Best tracks- Motivation, Realist Alive, Numb, The World Needs Change, and Illest Alive.
This album is dark, a bit depressing, and overflowing with crazy lyricism and bars. Best tracks- Burgundy, Hive, Chum, Sasquatch, Centurion, and Knight.
Really fun, positive, and unique listen, a solid effort from Ale Wiley. Best tracks- #Takeoff, Vibration, Splash Game, Made Me Know Normal, Forever, and OVA.
Extremely hit or miss with this album, some of the songs are straight fire and other sound very awkward and forced. Best tracks- Psycho, Let it Bang, New Level, Yammy Gang, and Grandma.
