AOTY review: Only God Was Above Us.
Release date: April 5th of 2024.
Vampire Weekend’s fifth album, and their long awaited return.
So, this is my favorite album of the year. One of the first recent albums that I listened more than once, and since the first listen it was an instant classic to me.
I had already followed the singles closely and listened to this band’s discography a lot before this came out.
Songs like A-Punk and even Unbelievers I already knew, since various years ago. ... read more
I love shoegaze so much, you don’t know how much.
Favorite tracks: catalogue, feminine adornments
Absolutely amazing. It’s noisy and hellish, and even if it sounds terrifying it’s also really beautiful.
Surprisingly good, specially since I don’t consider myself to be that much of a k-pop fan.
Relaxing, and very pretty music. Not much to say, but I really liked it!!! The overall texture of the music is awesome, gotta say that.
Absolutely gorgeous and at the same time imposing. It sounds incredibly loud, so I can only imagine how the live performance actually felt like. The new versions of Leaving Meaning songs are incredible, such as The Hanging Man and title track. Beggar and Birthing sound almost divine.
It has quickly become of my favorite live albums of all time.
What is that critic score? This is another example of an absolutely iconic live performance, rivaling Nirvana’s own Unplugged. Hauntingly beautiful, it’s got a great atmosphere surrounding the sound. They manage to be just as powerful as they sound in studio using only acoustic instruments.
Another great concert, and if you ask me, even better than the other legendary Unplugged, mentioned before.
Legendary concert, this is one of the greatest and most iconic live albums that exists. Recorded months prior Kurt’s death, it’s got a bit of an eerie feel, but an impeccable sound. It serves well as a goodbye.
Something I’ll always love about this is that instead of playing mostly their own songs, as it would be expected, most part of the performance was covers of other artists.
A great final release.
Of course, it’s a live album, but WHAT A LIVE ALBUM. This concert gets to show the maturity the band as a whole has reached, after finally getting consolidated. The MADLO songs sound even better here, and the live version of the Twin Fantasy songs (Sober to Death specially) are incredible. Great performance, and great songs here too.
This is pretty good, actually.
Screamo vocals, but a very pretty and nice instrumental. I’ve never heard of this group before, but this was worth it and makes me want to listen to more.
I’ve never heard of this artist before but this is great, very weird and loud but also really fun.
