The Gen Z death of genre boundaries is the greatest thing to happen to music in the 21st century
There are songs here that go through like 4 subgenres of rock in 5 minutes its crazy
Album sounds like if Rivers Cuomo was a zoomer who spent too much time on the internet and got really into black midi and bcnr then joined a radiohead cover band. (thats a compliment btw)
faves: slip under the door, rare animal, colecanth, cul-de-sac, commatose. the killer, the CIA
least fave: puppy
you can hear the first traces of the etheral blanket of noise sound that mbv would lean into on following releases but in the 2nd half the album the band decide to go full dissonant noise rock with mixed results. Some great and unique moments on this album but not every experiment pays off in the way they will on following mbv releases.
faves: (When You Wake) Your Still In A Dream, No More Sorry, Lose My Breath, I Can See It (But I Cant Feel It)
least fave: Several Girls Galore
probably the most underrated indie album of last year imo go tell all ur friends about computerwife 🙏🙏🙏

Only problem with this album is that every song is ... read more
Lowkey the best thing to come from any of the radiohead blokes since In Rainbows
But fr tho this album is so banging. I wasnt crazy on the first smile album as a lot of the songs just felt like Thom and Jonny just messing around jamming and trying stuff out which isnt a bad thing but led to a lot of the songs being kinda boring and emotionless.
This album however, feels like a much more deliberate artistic statement with a shorter tracklist and longer more developed songs. 8 Songs doesnt ... read more
