Before I dive into this review of *For All the Dogs*, I just want to briefly note that I only listened to the standard edition—not the Deluxe version available on Spotify—in case anyone was expecting me to cover that as well. But aside from that, *For All the Dogs* is just such a weird album. Like, I can't say that it's inherently bad, because there aren't any clear, concrete aspects you can point to as definitive proof of its badness. The production is okay, Drake is ... read more
To be fair, my expectations after Honestly, Nevermind were really low. So much more surprised me how much Her Loss got me in the end. This is a collaboration album between Drake and 21 Savage and it’s an absolute bar to bar banger. No melancholic, heavy, meaningless lyrics. No, the two try to improve from bar to bar and to outdo each other. And that works really well, the songs really fit in and are just fun. It’s a very simple album, nothing really goes deep or does anything with ... read more
As luck would have it, I managed to listen to Honestly Nevermind right after CLB and was positively inclined about how Drake had partially found himself again on CLB and started to get back into the mode he was in at the beginning of his career. So, the first Drake solo album in 3 years (Care Package and Dark Lane Demo Tape were nothing), and it's Certified Lover Boy with probably the worst album cover of all time, god, it's ugly. But now, aside from the cover, I find this album massively overhated. I've seen so much of that before: "The worst Drake album" to "Musical failure," and none of that is true. It's...nice. Of course, there are its stinkers like Girls Want Girls or Fucking Fans, where ... read more
It's 2020 and Drake is actually releasing another mixtape, and it's once again a compilation of loose tracks, and I mean it seriously: Who needed this? Literally, who asked for this? I take back everything I said about Views, it's so boring. Really, it all sounds the same, nothing really stands out. It's a homogenized mass of cuts that apparently came from the Scorpion era, and you can hear it. Scorpion was not a good album, so the songs on the mixtape, which are loose cuts ... read more
