this album is the reason i got into twenty one pilots. i remember seeing the nico and the niners mv on the tv one day, and josh and tyler do their handshake, and the whole narrative of the mv just drew me into their lore. personally, don't think you can piece out twenty one pilots' music from their lore, but even if you did, this album would still be as brilliant as it is with the lore in context.

they do a great job mixing shoegaze with alt rock and post hardcore music. all three of these are genres i'm quite heavily invested in, simply because i enjoy them more than other genres and also have listened to a lot of such music. listening to it felt familiar and new at the same time. the use of distortion does a lot. they've balanced the heavy screamy stuff alongside the shoegazy distortion, layered it so well.

really enjoyed this... especially the guitar(s)... i guess listening to it after spending a night in the desert probably did add to the enjoyment haha
now i can confidently say I last longer than a hardcore punk album and i won't be lying
intriguing experimentation that failed to connect with me unfortunately
good stuff. right up my alley. i wouldn't say they're being innovative, really, because ive heard stuff like this before, but that doesn't change the fact that I like their music. I'd hear it again, definitely, and also listen to what they release next in the years to come
