I stumbled upon this band on Instagram about 2 weeks ago. "Fabienk" was the first song I'd heard from these guys, and I didn't like it at first. I saw them again on my feed a few days later and I started to like it more. With that said, this album was an experience front to back. Three Days Grace's debut album is a very strong start for what would become of their career. The muddy guitar tone, which I adore, the edgy grit of Adam Gontier's vocals, and the lyrical quality is among the better of alt metal. Ascendancy is among the better albums I've listened to. I was recommended this album by a friend, and while I'm not the biggest fan of metalcore, I am a fan of this album. The mixing is alright, nothing too special, and the guitar tones, while crunchy, aren't very rich. Alice in Chains perfected the folk styled alt rock genre almost immediately as they started it. Nutshell, while definitely talked about the most of any song on the EP, is talked about for a reason. It's not my favorite song here, but it's a very amazingly done one nonetheless. Overall, Alice in Chains knocked it out of the park on this one.
Standouts: Rotten Apple, No Excuses, Don't Follow
I come back to this album every couple of years to do a full playthrough, and each and every time I feel more strongly about it. I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but this album is consistently in my top 10 albums of all time. That being said, this is definitely an overrated album, but that does not make it a bad album. 50 years later, it is still one of the most relevant albums, and I've never met a single person who doesn't know this album.

100: Absolute Perfection. No notes.
90-99: Almost perfect, maybe one or two things are lacking.
80-89: Extremely solid, but a few more issues are present.
70-79: Very enjoyable, but not the best.
60-69: Enjoyable, has issues, but still solid.
50-59: Good, but just as equally bad.
40-49: Memorable moments, nothing special.
30-39: A few good songs but mostly bad.
20-29: 3-4 pros I can point out.
10-19: 1, maybe 2 good things.
0-9: No redeeming qualities. Period.
