Everything about this is just bathed in tragedy. Even the instrumentals get held back right when it feels like they're making progress.
The unfinished album is a short peek into the life of a man who feels empty, hollow, and... unfinished. Listening to this album was horribly, painfully depressing. It felt like I was reading his mind and looking into his most tragic experiences and severe emotional turmoil. This is one of the only records to genuinely make me feel paranoid, because the record sounds genuinely depressed and paranoid.
I've never been so viscerally uncomfortable while bopping my head. I'll probably only ever revisit one or two songs here, but I'm glad to have listened.
I liked it enough, God Damn the Sun is one of my favorite Swans songs. I can't deny it's not as engaging as their other albums, though.
