Somehow a progressive indie rock album made its way to the Philippines, and Oh Flamingo are one of the first to do that.
Its about individual anxieties. Pretty cool
I think it's about time that The Ridleys instead reflect on how awfully generic their lyricism and music is
Hot take, it's better than Unexpectedly. This shit kinda touched my soul. Don't listen to that 1 weeb who rated this low, it's a solid dream pop album
Really fucking refreshing considering the decade it came from. Lourd De Veyra and his band are not only nasty, but innovative with a record that is conscious of the Philippines' social and political realities.
This is an EP that has aged like fine wine. THIS is how you do a healing album; a means of self-reflection that calms us in its own way. It is a perfect amalgam of ambience and instrumentals, making it for a astonishing, indie folk experience. You might as well ascend for how good this EP is
This shit is too short. Release a sequel Clara
This is essentially Lansangan's best work, different from any OPM indie folk you're bound to listen to. Despite lacking in the direction of its theme, this EP should set the standard for the aforementioned genre. So peak
I remember listening to this album 3 years ago thinking it deserves a score of 99. While that might have changed, I still think it's still consistently enjoyable and a coherent alternative country + alternative rock + soft rock + dream pop album that's lyrically poetic and adorable.
I wish they came back
It's an album that has multiple subgenres of pop that are sometimes mixed in with psychedelic rock. It also has a dark ambient interlude. Need I say less?
I was kind of expecting more from SUYEN considering how I've been anticipating new music for quite a while now. That isn't to say the album is bad, but it does feel confused in both writing and genre. Somehow its 2/6 tracks talking about herself, with the others being emotional love songs. What does peak my interest is in its way of getting inspirations from j-rock sounds and mid 2000's OPM indie, however I do feel that most of the tracks inspired from the latter still fall short ... read more
A bit overrated from how overpraised it is, but definitely still a staple for OPM dream pop. I'll take this album any day than anything from Lola Amour
Overall, an adorable album at best. But if y'all are looking to pick up hoes with this one I'd say its a 30-70
EDIT: This EP grew on me, so I bumped the score up a bit. Most definitely a dream pop staple
Classic rock + funk rock masterpiece with bits of punk. Even when it diverts from the conventional genres of the pinoy rock sound, it still carries on this "Filipino style" and makes it even more complex for what it is. Granted, there are noticeable differences when we compare said style to every other country's rock such as j-rock (japan rock). In a way, P.O.T. wants to be something unique, but at the same time, a contributor to the essence of OPM.
Like honestly, who cares if it ... read more
where else are you gonna hear an OPM indie rock album that is jazz in nature and has some integrations of electronic music? none
this is a certified hood classic
lola amour is the imagine dragons of OPM rock. god I hope they get banished from the industry because they contribute nothing good to the filipino identity in music
As much as people praise this album for its variety of sound from new wave, retrowave, to even hints of post-punk, and more, I can't really say that much of Zild's album is groundbreaking other than it reviving a huge part of the emo scene in the PH. A majority of the tracks still follow the generic rock/pop ballad similar to a majority of contemporary artists these days, with the themes being contorted and all over the place. You'd think that the first 2 tracks, CRAB and Dekada 70' give an ... read more
I've listened to this album a fuckton of times already and honestly: I still cant comprehend the sheer spiral of this album
For one its simultaneously simplistic, a mess, and crazy in its own way. You literally got tracks like HELL! or HELL? and DRIVE US CRAZY which go out of the window, but then you also have tracks like EXPOSE 'Burnout!!!', Invincible Fighter, !NVADE SHOW! and RIOT that falls weak for the supposed energy the band is supposed to impose and in comparison to its aforementioned ... read more
