Look, I like Kelela. I loved Take Me Apart. I have yet to fully listen to Raven, but I have listened to some songs from that album, and they are pretty great! And while the new album doesn't really seem to be much of a pivot, as its title "new avatar" suggests (idea 1 was a great concept, what happened to that?), that doesn't bother me. And this is a new single from her and...
Man, the mixing should have been a lot better on this one. Because both the instrumental and ... read more
Ugh.
This is gross. party 4 u is perfectly fine, untouched. I may not be a mega fan of it, and it's far from my favorite Charli song. Yet I believe in an ideal world, it would stay untouched, and should have been untouched. But no, the Chainsmokers turned it into something forgettable, bland, and extremely blasé. There's no soul to this. If there was soul, it's from the original, and that has been sucked thoroughly with a vacuum, and spat out.

So thanks to LOONA being the first group that truly sold me to K-pop as a genre when I first genuinely considered it, I've been aware of Yves for a good while. She's my runner-up in terms of my favorite LOONA members, or "bias wrecker" as people in K-pop call it. She's made pretty good music in my books. Look, I'm a fan of Red Velvet since I've started to listen to K-pop and took the genre more seriously as a whole last summer. I've always like their overall knack for harmonies, their voices, their colorful pop on their Red side and their slicked back R&B side on their Velvet side. But I never listened to their projects as whole, only the title tracks or occasionally dabbing on their B-sides. So I figured why not check Cosmic out? It's their recent EP and their 10-year ... read more
Honestly, this is not that bad. I don't hate it, in fact I kinda enjoy it. I like the instrumentation (which in my opinion is like BLACKPINK circa 2017 but done a bit better), I like HYO's verse, the pre-chorus and the breakdown, and the chorus is very catchy, even if it's just the word dessert repeated and spliced.
But at the same time I kinda do understand why it's not that great. And I mostly blame the mastering, because it edits the vocals a lot, and sometimes leads to ... read more
