On first listen, I have no idea what to say. Super dark and psychedelic. Gonna have to relisten
After a couple listens I have made myself an opinion.
I mean, it's super submersive and kind of feels like a sonic world in itself. The production is great. There's not a track I dislike in terms of production. (there are some mid ones tho)
It's just the lyrics that are dissapointing. It's mostly devoid of substance, and mainly brag. But when he actually tries to say something, it's almost always about the 2021 Astroworld tragedy. And when he does this, it only comes off insensible and delusional. It seems that Travis thinks he's the one that something has happened to. At least that's what it seems like. Every time he mensions it, it's somehow centered around him rather than the people it affected. Look at this line:
"If they just knew what Scotty would do to jump off the stage and save him a child"
It's like he just wants to mentain his image, and he shows no signs of actually caring. In the same verse he even says that 'He gives us the rage' and there's no turning it down or taming it. 'So of course I can't be blamed, right guys?'
It's so sad to see this. It's like he's truly unable to be introspective. It all leaves me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. I mean I wanna say that it's a good album. Cause damn, it sounds good. But I just feel like it would've been better if this was trash. Because people seem to be too engulfed in the hype to see what he's doing. It feels like he won in a way. He mostly cleared his image. People love his music, it's the most talked about music release of the year, and people seem to have redeemed him. It's all pretty sad.
Super weird situation. Btw thanks to Hivemind for giving me perspective on this album. Check their video out!!!
See ya
