Aminé - 13 Months of Sunshine

I'm going to keep this brief but while I think this is Aminé's most personal album it is wayyyy too long. I like that there are pockets of softness and breathers in between the hits but I think there are maybe 2-4 songs that could've been added to a deluxe version or jus taken off altogether. The top of the record is great and full of energy and life, the middle starts to get a bit muddy and the vocals feel pretty similar to one another, and the end is pretty great. I also ... read more

SAILORR - FROM FLORIDA'S FINEST

From florida's finest indeed! This mixtape is so much fun and pays homage to a lot of that modern classic r&b sound — with that being said I think it's very clear which artists she is referencing with each of her songs: a lot of sza, summer walker, ari lennox, a bit of kali uchis as well. I think personally there are a few songs i don't gravitate to but there are a few that are complete standouts. Overall enjoyable mixtape and a great way to finish the spring ... read more

ROLE MODEL - Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye)

Once again i am late to the party but man is it a fun one! This was my first time listening to Role Model's music and I am a new fan for sure — I'm going to keep this short and sweet but this feels so personal without feeling too sadboy. A couple of songs were sleepers to me but I think would resonate with someone who's more of a fan. Classic pop record with some great additions at the end!

Notable faves: Slipfast, Old Recliners, Slut Era Interlude, The Longest Goodbye, ... read more

Tate McRae - So Close To What

This album feels so nostalgic! Very clear references to early 2000's R&B and pop, and very clear influences can be heard in each of the songs: Miss possesive feels like it's straight from a britney spears album, dear god is so promiscuous girl/timbaland-coded, purple lace bra feels like taylor swift/lana del rey/halsey/cry me a river in one song, sports car is SO pussycat dolls, etc. I think there are some really clear winners across the record, but as a collective it feels like ... read more

Midland - Barely Blue

I’ve casually listened to Midland for some time now and I would say this is their most polished record to-date. They do a great job of channeling some of that old school country sound while staying contemporary, which can often times lend itself to sounding cheesy imo but not in this case. Some of the songs have mental callbacks to old country or even classic rock songs to me: the opening piano chords in Lucky Sometimes sound a bit like a Journey song to me, Better Than A Memory sounds a ... read more
