RIP Steve Albini 💔 One of the coolest records ever. I was obsessed with this album in college I used to play tracks from it on the college radio all the time and listen to it while I smoked cigs melancholically. It’s beautiful to have lived a life where you are able to create art that people genuinely love
It’s kind of crazy that Kevin Parker worked on most of this album when the production is honestly kind of boring. The first track, “End Of An Era”, was my favorite and probably the only one I’ll come back to. Edit: I felt compelled to re-listen because I thought I was missing something and I do like it more. I don’t think this album is supposed to be analyzed it’s about fun summer vibes
These guys know how to “jam” better than any jam band. I loved their album “Ilana” when it came out 5 years ago and this album is just as good if not better. I love how complex and stimulating Mdou Moctar’s music is, it’s so texturally rich and pleasing.
This album really made me feel something. I love beautiful, depressing music. Lyrically strong without trying too hard and really great at building up and playing around with musical textures. The first and last tracks were my favorites, but all the tracks in between them were great too. I don’t really care if this album doesn’t sound very “original” because it sounds very good.
Annie Clark I owe you an apology, I wasn't really familiar with your game. I have never really been a St. Vincent fan, I remember being bored by "Masseduction" and I thought that her music just wasn't really for me. This album is pretty great and was the first that made me really understand her cult following and reputation. "Big Time Nothing" was a stand-out track for me, the production on this specific track is great and it remains pretty great throughout the whole album.
