woah !!

So, after declaring The New Sound as one of my top 3 albums ever made, my hungry ass decided to run to the source to try and squeeze some more peak nectar out of Geordie Greep's magical teat, in the form of the band he kicked off his career with, black midi.

I think my biggest issue with this album is that it's not particularly memorable. Not the album itself, obviously, this shit's absolutely crazy, how could I forget, but that none of the songs seem to have any kind of defined melody that sticks with me after the song ends (except for the riff in Welcome to Hell that shit slaps). Compared to The New Sound, which was jam-packed with catchy and brilliant sequences, without losing any of the chaos. TNS was a controlled chaos. Hellfire is just chaos.

That being said, I won't hold that against the album at all. It's clear that the genre this is going for isn't trying to be particularly melodic.

So now, my actual thoughts? This shit BANGS. Every song takes a thousand twists and turns, and the tracklist somehow leaps from calm serenades to insane passages of improvised(?) rock. Much of it may not stick in my mind after the fact, but it's a blast while I'm there.

Maybe that's the point.
