Rex Orange County - Pony

Yet another indie artist falling off in creativity after a major record deal. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN SO OFTEN! It's like money just sucks the soul out of the art.

WTF is the cover art. The only thing good about it is that it visually sums up how boring and unimaginative of a listen you're about to have with this album.

I love Alex's last two projects but this one is not interesting to me at all whatsoever. The instrumentation is so simple. The closest Rex gets to his previous sound is on ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

This album is a masterclass in storytelling. Seriously, this is pure genius.

Also, if you like this album, go listen to the series of Dissect podcast on it. It talks in-depth about all the lyrics, narrative, instrumentation and samples.

Juto - Wool

While Velvet is smooth and sexy, Wool has a more fluffy a soft vibe. Sorry, I'm going off these fabric descriptions haha. It really does feel like it though. Juto comes through with the goods again, this time with much more refined production. While Juto's vocal performances on each track are on point as always, not as many of the hooks on this resonated with me compared to Velvet. Instead, this EP is a totally different vibe. This is an EP I can groove to. The bass and drums on this really pop ... read more

Polish Club - Iguana

I have to admit, at first, I didn't approve of this new direction Polish Club took from their previous work, but it's really grown on me the more I listen to this album. They went with a more refined and produced sonic aesthetic that in other cases often limits indie and rock artists from really expressing and maintaining what makes them unique. At times this does happen on Iguana like on Time Crisis or 2 Scared where the overproduced sound subdues Polish Club's powerful energy that can be seen ... read more

Polish Club - Alright Already

Right from the get-go with 'Where U Been?', we are introduced to Polish Club's explosive energy with Novak's belting vocals and John-Henry's drumming that really gets the rhythm going for the rest of the album.

Novak's versatility as a vocalist is astounding. He can go from screaming with crazy amounts of vocal fry in songs like Beat Up or Able to a soothing ballad in Divided. It's impossible not to sing along.

JH, although not the most complex of drummers, adapts the drum part to each song ... read more
