Imagine Drowning - Stain Licker
50

darkly soothing though obviously inspired by tim hecker, ironic considering hecker even features on one of the tracks

death's dynamic shroud - シェンムーONLINE [Shenmue Online]
20

a great example of why the best artists start off by making their worst projects. i've recently fallen pretty deeply in love with death's dynamic shroud, and after subscribing to their bandcamp page i thought it'd be a great opportunity to listen to their complete catalogue to truly hear everything they have to offer as a group, and this album is so far not a great start nor is it a good introduction to dds as a whole. it's slow, boring, and honestly a little lazy with really nothing that ... read more

Trhä - mã Héshiva õn dahh Khata trhândlha vand ëfd datnen Aghen Ecíës drhãtdlhan savd
60

trha seemed very daunting to me when i saw the large quantity of releases and the extreme song lengths but this has to be one of the most engrossing and prolific discographies of any modern artist, it seems like it could get tiring after awhile but as of this moment as im around 4 or 5 releases in i feel no fatique whatsoever, trha has crafted long black metal pieces that all contain unique and catchy riffs and melodies, haunting vocals and adds new elements to each release, some of his ... read more

Bodyguard - Rain
60

such a unique piece, though not really entirely ambient and works in elements of edm this is still such a unique atmosphere that could really only work because it's james ferraro pulling these various pieces of sound together, Rain is listening to a master at work, to make a long atmospheric piece purely through recycling sounds with almost no actual instruments present is astounding.

輕描淡寫 [Understatement] - 小圈子 [Small Circle]
60

soothing and short, bite sized rainy vapor that i would own on cassette and play on loop for hours.

沙漠鱿鱼 [Desert Squid] - 上海/香港 [Hong Kong / Shanghai]
50

much less than i was expecting honestly. for a moment looking at the genre tags on rym i thought i had found a vapor album i'd been dreaming of, rainy city field recordings mixed in with a flowing vapory layer of synthy sounds but it really isn't that at all and is instead just an... ambient vapor record. it's really nothing insane, pretty standard fare in fact. let me down a lot.

Naked Flames - Black Front Door
70

my favorite artist working today dropped an overlooked gem last year, i've listened to this quite a bit and must say there isn't much else like this. it's extremely cozy but also devoid of clutter, spacious and warm.

Heinali - Kyiv Eternal
70

the sounds and textures across these tracks are quite unique and unlike a lot of other newly released ambient, it has a rough and real quality to it's drones that give each song it's own little contained setting within the world of the album.

아버지 [father2006] - reflection
60

much prefer the washing drones and ghostly atmosphere of "흰색 죽음" though the production of this is also very brilliant.

아버지 [father2006] - 흰색 죽음 [White Death]
70

cold and empty, beautifully lonely listen and a very unique emotional experience especially for a vaporwave album.

山岡晃 [Akira Yamaoka] - Silent Hill (Original Soundtracks)
80

much darker than silent hill 2's soundtrack though the sequel's tracklist has tons more variety that all fits nicely into it's atmosphere, this does have some genuinely disturbing industrial and dark ambient tracks. "Aint Gonna Rain" still terrifies me.

death's dynamic shroud - VIRTUAL UTOPIA EXPERIENCE
70

windly underappreciated. it's funny to me that this took so long for me to get to, considering I quite like both psychedelic folk and vaporwave but just never found the time for this i guess. now that I have, I can safely say this is probably the group's best ambient release. beautifully unique folk strums submerged in lakes of reverb, reminds me of the one scene from spirited away where Chihiro meets the river spirit.

Nmesh & t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 - ロストエデンへのパス [The Path to Lost Eden]
50

i deem around half of the album as skippable filler simply due to my dislike for nmesh, i don't know what he's like as a person but i've never liked his vapor releases and prefer mr path by a mile. path's works here are pretty great but it's dumbed down by the fact this album is a split and thus contains a bunch of mediocre tracks and the good stuff at the end. this is around 90 minutes of content but about 40ish minutes of it is boring.

t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 - 現実を超えて [Beyond Reality]
90

mr path's peak. for quite a long time i've thought this and never really changed my mind at all. i don't think anything he's done can really compared to what he achieved here. he invented slushwave in 2014 and also perfected it in 2014. the sloshy late night tv sound of this record along with it's perfectly reasonable runtime especially for a t e l e p a t h record, it's mix of downtempo drums and amazing slowed soul samples creates this ghostly and nocturnal haze in your ears, the sound ... read more

Infinity Frequencies - Between two worlds
60

comfy but also kind of scary

ESPRIT 空想 [Esprit Fantasy] - virtua.zip
50

george clanton may be a super chill guy and a fantastic producer and i'm happy to have gotten the privilege to see him perform live, though espirit.wav is a great track this just lacks in every other way, most of these songs just dont stand out and this project has very little impact running at a measly 21 minutes. just not really anything worth writing about, pretty straightforward vapor from 2014.

2814 - 新しい日の誕生 [Birth of a New Day]
80

an undisputed classic. though not t e l e p a t h 's definitive effort the music strikes a unique feeling that has never returned in either of the collaborator's solo work since this released. i also think it's a little funny that japanese is used on the cover yet the samples are from chinese films, and honestly it sounds to me more like a rainy night in hong kong than a neon futuristic japan.

death's dynamic shroud - 失われた時REGRET [Regret When It Was Lost]
50

it has it's cool moments but otherwise I honestly think this is very underwhelming and honestly shows it's age quite often, it's very much a product of the early 2010s vaporwave craze, i don't really have anything else to say about it. let me down.

The Gerogerigegege - >(decrescendo)
80

another huge favorite of mine. juntaro releases another ambient magnum opus. a contemplative album who's minimalism doesn't interfere with it's uniqueness. this is such a simplistic thing to make that it baffles me nobody had done so before. to simply play instruments in a field surrounded by trains and cars, hearing the crickets as you strum, the serenity presented here is superb. learning that this was intended to be a memorial piece for Juntaro's friend who had died before this project's ... read more

Yellow Swans - Drowner Yellow Swans
90

everything that can be said about yellow swans can be summed up in my thoughts for this album. this sounds like dirty water. it's purity has been infested and corrupted with a filthy, painful disease that is slowly eating away at what once made it shimmer elegantly. this is a soundtrack to pain for me. i've listened to this many times as the soundtrack to points in my life where i felt as though i was always going to suffer. and in a way i still am going to suffer. it will never end. but at ... read more
