this album has a special quality to it that makes you either think it's the most engaging piece of drone ever written or it bores you to tears and you think it's one of the most outstanding works of stinking garbage ever released as an album. I'm a part of the former. the whole thing is an engulfing masterwork of fuzzy guitar tones and it's so easy to lose yourself in the sound of this record, especially with the last song being as long as it is. meditative metal.
my favorite boris project behind rock dream, flood is a monumental achievement to me, a piece of music that makes you wonder not only how it was ever conceived but also how it was actualized. every moment is a highlight, though i do think the first track runs a little long the following tracks totally make up for it, which of course includes the last track which i adore. the silence... occasionally pieces by the building crash of a small layer of feedback progressively growing less and less ... read more
though i have yet to finish paysage's discography this is my favorite so far. these ambient tracks are very strong breakaways from the rough and ice cold bm tracks, the final track is fantastic, it shocks me how it's 12 minutes but never actually feels that long. magic.
paysage is in many ways a spiritual successor to burzum, with his fusion of ambient and atmospheric black metal he crafts what are probably my favorite albums from the genre, but this time with the benefit of actually being a good person. doesn't collab with any ns artists and was inspired to make music after learning how shit of a person varg is. though this demo is good and the final track cut from streaming is among one of my favorite ambient pieces from paysage,10 minutes of a cold howling ... read more
one of the most original ambient works of the decade, old saw revives the practically dead style of ambient americana and crafts one of the most seamlessly beautiful albums I've heard in years. a majestic must listen for anyone in search of new ambient.
Twisting sounds and endlessly droning psychedelic guitars occasionally featuring short but sharp blasts of noise and minimalist haunting vocals, 7 hours of non stop hypnotic atmosphere. I'm a huge sucker for anything that sounds medieval or makes me think of high fantasy and this just soundtracks a small village tortured by a tyrannical government in my head. Also this cover is a painted screencap from Possession which is probably my favorite movie ever!
an admirable effort no doubt considering this was made in prison (where he should have stayed) but it's not captivating whatsoever. dull soundscapes and little atmosphere to speak of. really not interesting. -10 points because its varg.
shitty dumb midi music i do really like the vibe and fantasy aesthetic as a fan of high fantasy but it's done so shitty it sounds like the soundtrack of a bootlegged ps2 game or something. -10 points because it's varg.
not super into it, never really was a huge fan of minecraft and always though both the game and ost were overhyped but im glad others can get something out of it even if i cant
This may be my gold standard for atmospheric black metal, one of my favorite albums of all time and has everything I look for and want to hear from an atmospheric black metal album, lofi cheap shittily mixed diy production, the cold atmosphere resembling the winter in a fantasy novel, ghastly vocal performances resembling the sounds of a howling wind whispering the words of ghosts into your ears, poetic lyrics of usually of depressing themes of moody setting descriptions, and a perfect balance ... read more
I honestly think this is one of the most important artistic pieces released in the past 10 years, and that the concept of this album goes over the heads of plenty of listeners. Moenai Hai, to me, is Juntaro painting his view of his own life through this music. Virtually nothing is known about Juntaro's personal life, so a lot of it is fairly up to interpretation, so I'll try my best to give my personal interpretation of this work.
The first track "西河の果て" translating to ... read more
Very happy i got this signed by M. Gira! not their best but has extreme highs like the two infamously incredible post rock tracks, one of my favorites in their whole discography is "surrogate drone" actually. for a simple drone the dual guitar tones sound so uniquely swans, like it really sounds like the music is playing out of golden instruments. "I love you this much" is another highlight in their discography and is one of their most terrifying tracks, with "I was a ... read more
i honestly prefer uboa's "flesh of the world" ep over this, and i'm not sure why. it has the stuff i usually like: atmosphere, texture, loud noises and screaming, and some good moody ambience but aside from the 4th and maybe the first track i've never felt too connected to the music, and i've listened to this around 5 times.
it's both simple and complex, moody and futuristic, atmospherically empty. none of this made sense tl;dr it's really good
