Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy
86

Absolutely gorgeous.

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING
68

I'm an atheist and I approve of this Kanye.

TOOL - Fear Inoculum
78

Impression after three listens:

Monolithic, titanic and yet, somehow, mesmerizing songs. They unmistakenly bear the mark of TOOL, while also adding new, interesting elements. Say, the trippy synths in Pneuma, the jazzy improvisation in Chocolat Chip Trip, the pure psychedelica in both Invincible and Descending (that lost one being an underrated masterpiece), or the post-rock elements in Culling Voices.

Unfortunately, most of these songs have their climaxes blurred by the digital production. ... read more

Flying Lotus - Flamagra
71

On his latest effort, Flying Lotus transitions from intricacy to subtlety (with the notable exception of Yellow Belly). This makes his work harder to penetrate, and less apt for headbanging. Also, all cosmic beings from his previous records seem to have transformed into soft machines: no less alive, but yet, less awe-inspiring.

And yet, there's no denying its genius: for how many artists can lay claim to inventing a whole new sound? Because that's exactly what FLyLo did on this album, AGAIN. ... read more

Josin - In the Blank Space
74

Portishead meets Thom Yorke.

LCD Soundsystem - american dream
77

I no way do I consider this LCD Soundsystem's best album. But, weirdly enough, this is the one I listen to most. Anyway, 'i used to' is a masterpiece. And I don't get the hate 'emotional haircut' receives. I mean, how could any fan of Joy Division (Closer period) and Pere Ubu dislike this?

Frank Ocean - Blonde
57

This albums bothers me.

I loved Frank Ocean's first effort. I love minimalism. But I don't love this. Even after 10 listens (the last 2 while reading the lyrics), it doesn't click. Then again, I can't just dismiss it, because of my admiration for the project and Frank Ocean himself.

Could other people share their experiences with this album? What made it 'click' for you?

Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
71

It's hard to argue with the effective brutality of this panic attack inducing and maniacal album. How Daughters fully embrace their sound has an element of genius to it. In a weird way, this album manages to shatter everything to pieces but also lets the debris fall in its right place.

However, a lack of variation and some weaker moments in the songwriting department stop this from being the masterpiece it is often claimed to be. Fans will also notice the lack of progression from their ... read more

SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
82

Its flaws are obvious. It's all over the place. Extreme for the sake of being extreme. Nonetheless, it's quite probably a visionary masterpiece that will set the tone for years to come.

KEN mode - Loved
