This dynamic between the traditional hardcore punk groove and the post-hardcore aesthetics is a key element of Loved, and sees the band balance between the two throughout the record.
While the more casual listener will find this heavy going, fans of the band, and of noise rock in general, are going to be stoked.
This record is not a reimagining of the band or a fresh start. Loved is an exercise in moulding what KEN Mode has always been good at into a perfect soundtrack for these times of great political uncertainty.
It’s not a depressing jam: Raging against all of the horrors of the world may ultimately be futile but it doesn’t mean we can’t try a little bit of anger and a whole lot of rage to get through the dark nights of the soul.
"Loved" has the strongest crop of tracks from noise rock and sludge metal band KEN Mode. It's constantly unnerving in multiple ways.
'Doesn't Feel Pain Like He Should', 'Very Small Men', 'This is a Love Test' and especially 'No Gentle Art' (this closer is lit 🔥) are well crafted songs. Exciting, sinister and dynamic. Why I like noise rock in the first place.
But the rest of the material is not that strong or mixed in not the best way (drums on 'The Illusion of Dignity' suck ass, for example).
Still worth a listen.
Really dark unique record with mix of sludge metal and noise rock great vocals and amazing building atmosphere with harashin riffs
