For anyone worried that a back-to-back release threatened to come off as an engorged A-side, B-side glut, VOID fulfills the promise of a band that simply has plenty more to say. KEN mode doesn’t tell stories that make you feel good, but they sure as hell know how to tell one that reminds you to try.
Even in its quietest moments, Void is a harrowing listen, and KEN Mode have fully embraced the power of "post-", accentuating the crushing torrents of noise with song-length moments of respite.
All of Ken Mode's best tracks are bass centric, and every single song on this album is like that, therefore it is based and epic.
VOID, the followup record to NULL, showcases an interesting turn for the band, whereas the first record was really abrasive and noisy, here KEN mode prefers to create an even more hopeless, obscure, and somewhat melancholic sound, implementing more elements that are found outside of their comfort zone, like synthesizers and strings. As Shane Mehling said when first reviewing this album, it's like the first record is you fighting, and this one is you losing.
Brief Review: Starts off really exciting kicking in the door almost immediately, but then sadly looses quite a bit of steam as it goes on. Best songs on here are pretty damn amazing tho, and the overall style and aesthetic of this album was def mesmerizing. But yeah, there’s some issues here and there, but still its pretty great!
An unique blend of metal ideas that other deemed unorthodox at times. Started off strong that collectively lost team over time but does give ideas what metal can do.
Given how small my scope of music was in 2023, it doesn’t come as a surprise I missed a such record such as this. Now I’m here, to what I can only describe as a relentless highway of entropy. Its nihilistic atmosphere compounded by its heavy sludgy riffs and vocals.
