I think the messaging is very thoughtful, this album just doesn't grip me much unfortunately. I do acknoledge that the music is very good though. I know music isn't ever technically objective but if it were then I'd say this music is objectively designed and done very well.
This comparison doesn't inherently reflect quality but this project reminds me of the original 2011 Twin Fantasy in the sense that the ideas are interesting and gripping, but often heavily lack in development and execution. I feel like there's an inner soul to this album that could've been fleshed out a lot more but isn't as refined as it could be. Regardless, I like this new direction that Joshua's taken. There's times when this album clicks exactly with my taste for Post-Rock and does really well for me, and times when it unfortunately doesn't do much for me and felt boring. It's good music, but not as good for my ears as other Post-Rock out there.
