Needs some relistens before I can bump it any higher as it doesn't resonate as hard as their previous work just yet but GODDAMN, is this some classy shit.
Every track exudes such distinct character, painting as vivid an image possible of a cyberpunk dystopia void of the neon and chrome we associate you might expect. Instead replaced with a cold and grimy landscape, government surveillance and new drugs to pacify the masses, it would be fun if the world these guys are describing didn't ... read more
Was completely obsessed with this album when I was 16 so it holds a special place in my heart to an extent.
Aged like milk tho, whole thing is a ball of cringe with Propaganda being the one highlight, a track so ridiculous and bizarre that it actually works.
Not groundbreaking but a really promising return to form, love to see a solid change in direction after the last couple albums.
While I personally prefer the more raw sound of Laugh Tracks, the artistic growth in regards to songwriting and lyricism here is undeniable.
Whether taking aim at the rich and powerful or organized religion Knocked Loose pull it off with a ferocity and conviction that are rarely seen in modern metal and punk, resulting in a refreshing set of bangers and my personal AOTY for 2024 so far.
Some of the hardest shit I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, crushing, angry, and really fucking catchy.
Knocked Loose singlehandedly got me interested in metalcore again.
Generally solid with a good handful of amazing tracks, production is clean and minimal which fits the overall aesthetic really well.
Could have been more consistent but she has a really infectious attitude and honesty that I find really enjoyable.
Last single was kinda disappointing so I wasn't too excited about this but DAMN did it surprise me.
Simple but insanely catchy and hard beat, excellent hook, some great verses and one hell of a feature from Kenny Mason, Zel is back baby.
Some of the best and most potent lyricism, hell, some of the greatest poetry, that you'll ever hear, all packaged with stripped back but beautiful instrumentation.
The way that Father John Misty digs deep into the human condition in such a raw, often hilarious, and always profound manner is staggering.
Yeah its cold and dark, plumbing the depths of human cruelty, stupidity, and the ultimate reality of the meaninglessness of our existence, but its done here in such a stunning way that I can't ... read more
These guys should not be allowed to produce their own records, sadly they just aren't cut out for it.
Really bummed that one of the bands I used to really love had gotten so stale, guess I'll just pretend that nothing after How Did We Get So Dark? happened.
One of the best singles of the year, insane run underscores is going on, I can't wait for the album.
Some bangers to be sure, but this is played way too safe for the band that gave us tracks like Phobia and Live Like Animals.
They are capable of so much but they clearly went in a really mainstream, overproduced sound with Dead Club City that's honestly really dissapointing.
Initially thought that this was a failed experiment, too many different ideas not well enough connected to form a cohesive whole.
On subsequent listens I really started to see the vision, sure its a bit messy and over complicated at times, but there's something subtly revolutionary about Jockstrap's uncompromised individuality in the pop landscape that just makes them irresistible.
For every odd choice there's a million other awesome moments on this album, definitely a slow grower but one I ... read more
No idea wtf she's going on about but her voice is amazing and the production is super clean and not overdone.
Solid ass pop record with some incredible hooks and vocals.
The fact that this producer made a song w JPEGMAFIA is fucking crazy.
But yeah this is hot ass, bottom of the barrel on all counts, hope everyone involved has a terrible day.
Cold pizza, greasy dishes, headphone cable getting all tangled up, condensation on the windows, the whole deal.
One of my fav tracks of this year so far, proves you don't need a fancy over-the-top instrumental to make a effortlessly fun, danceable, and ultimately inspiring little bop.
Seriously some of the best dance production I've ever heard, its so simple but so effective, a shimmery and precise piece of pop music I've heard in a while.
Hyped as fuck for this album.
While a case can be made that Since I Left You is more worthy of classic status I personally prefer Wildflower.
The tracks are so much more varied and the features are nothing short of incredible, The Avalanches managed to craft the perfect feel-good album here, every track is like being soaked in sunshine, bright and sparkling and full of vivid and colorful detail.
Sometimes beautiful, sometimes hard as fuck, sometimes horrifying, Mandy, Indiana threw caution to the wind with their debut, crafting some of the most thoughtful, hard hitting and unique electronic music of the decade so far.
A runner for AOTY and a powerful statement to keep an eye on this bands future.
