Considering the discrepancy between the critic and user scores, and how much the critics' reviews brought up gender, I figured this would be another album more about it's message than the actual music a la Anohni's Hopelessness. I was pleasantly surprised when I gave it a listen and this shit slaps. It's an 83 on first listen, but if it grows on me even more this has real AOTY potential.
I don't understand why everyone seems to hate this album so much... the majority of the tracks here are highly enjoyable and extremely memorable, and even "Doompy Poomp" and "Fuck That" (which are definitely the worst songs on the album) don't merit skips. Easily Skrillex's second-best effort thus far.
I've been trying to get into ambient music for a few years now, and this is exactly the ambient album I've been looking for. Listening to this at one in the morning in bed with the lights out is one of the greatest musical experiences I've had this year.
