The rap iconoclast returns with his best album since Barter 6, daring and chameleonic, filled with hooks about identity, love, and that undefinable future swag.

Pretty Much Amazing

Jeffery’s immediacy is what makes it make such an impression the first time around, and it’s a break from the increasingly experimental leanings of hyped pop releases.

On his third mixtape release of the year, iconic Atlanta rapper Young Thug makes his big artistic statement. Following Slime Season 3 -- itself an equally competent and Zeitgeist-defining collection -- Thug's JEFFERY ... is thrilling and essential, one of the best rap releases of 2016.

That he keeps getting better is just frightening, as he’s had a song that’s suggested a peak every year since 2011. And yet, here we are, continually marking the progress of Young Thug.

On Jeffery ... he's a singer who raps. Try as he might, Thugga can't rap more than a few bars here before the melody overtakes him. He's got a song in his heart, and he just has to let it out.

Rolling Stone

As usual it's Thug's own sound that predominates: the heroic howls, rasps, mumbles and wheezes of a man who is as captivating a vocalist as any in pop.

NOW Magazine

Young Thug is still one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop, and Jeffery lives up to the best moments from his Barter 6 and Slime Season mixtapes.

From the jamming intro to the sublime closer, Jeffery is a testament to the rapper’s carefree spirit.

The Needle Drop
Don't let the gimmicky track titles and memeable front cover fool you; Jeffery is one of Young Thug's best projects to date.

Despite the name change and alleged new musical direction, Jeffery serves as just another notch on Thugger’s YSL belt.

The Guardian

Whether he’s going by Young Thug or Jeffery, the artist formerly known as Thugger has carried on his run with a mixtape that features gems among run-of-the-mill trap fodder.

EDIT: Has aged like fine wine.

So I decided to stop rating trap music as harshly as I have been in the past. I would go in looking for lyrical skill, without even realizing that the genre is not about lyrics at all. With that being said, I enjoyed this tape immensely. Young thug did some really different stuff on here compared to his past releases. The beats are much better and more experimental, and Thug even messes around with some different vocal inflections. His lyrics are also pretty ... read more
young thug is trash
i lost 5 IQ points listening to this
incomprehensible and unintelligable
frequently sound very much like a bad freestyle
with rather bland bars
that often lack
direction or wit
What a year 2016 was for trap music. Young Thug blessed the world with this just a few months after releasing Slime Season 3 and I'm Up, and it's probably the best of them all! Just a really fun 40 minutes filled with high energy and great melodies. Thug does whatever the hell he wants to on this album and it came out amazing.

Least favorite: Floyd Mayweather
Young Thug has made a name for himself as one of the most unique voices in trap rap; literally; and Jeffery is probably one of the most prominent examples. His voice is basically used like an instrument on this album, with unique vocal inflections that really helps separate this album from many trap rap albums released at the time. From what are essentially seal barks on RiRi to the rage-fueled vocals of Harambe, they stand out greatly even if with the former track I appreciate it more than ... read more
Thugga delivers a collection of hard hitting bangers. I have never been the biggest Young Thug fan but I still enjoy quite a bit of his music. I decided to go for one of his more popular releases and I was not disappointed. Thugga's voice really show's it's colorful nature and his voice really does sound like an instrument in this album. The production also helps his voice like a backing band. The features also sound great on this album. The final addition of Pick up the Phone just sounds ... read more
