Interesting listen, there's a mixed bag with this entire album. There's a lot of great cuts and some extremely underwhelming cuts. Features was minimal, and I didn't really expect something crazy from him especially since he doing a movie out of this. Alot of the experimenting worked and the other times didn't work. I have to sit with most of these tracks for the next while...
Very solid body of work here. Blu and Evidence are a low-key duo I didn't really see them colliding worlds but they complimented each other well. Blu dynamic lyricism and Evidence production sample chops help each other out to create a soundscape that feels as if I'm in LA even if I never been there. Some of the songs here are absolute bangers with the feature cuts. Some of the names I never heard of impressed me a lot such as Nana, Cashius King and Self Jupiter. Can't wait to ... read more
Another interesting album made here. Action Bronson has not done a lot of the soundscapes he's hopped on here and his content matter is nothing new at all, which is regular Action Bronson stuff. Solid body of work, there's some stuff that is left to be desired but overall some of the songs here are absolute bangers including the last track...
This duo is dynamic and insane and this was very least expected in my 2024 bingo card. Pete Rock production is very well adjusted to modern times and it also stayed true to his artistry. Common rapping has been the best and writing as well since a good portion of time ago. His delivery was lively and the contributions from the few features was amazing. I cannot wait to continue keeping this album in rotation. Hip Hop is really at its best with this project
This albums intriguing because the bedroom pop with some fusions of rock have perfectly complimented her voice. And there's cuts of different instrumentations in the back I haven't really seen much from her other albums. Her voice and preserved nature through her voice and overall vibe has been displayed and layered well here. Another project where she doesn't get too much out of her comfort zone and box, but not too comfortable to where she doesn't attempt to experiment ... read more
I have a lot to consider when it comes to this album. Firstly, he's wayyyyyyy past his prime. Two, he's conflicting with his Slim Shady alter ego and character. And three, we know somehow how he's gonna approach his lyricism + content matter. He was one of the most innovative creative minds in Hip Hop in the horror core side, allowing for more exposure on other styles in Hip Hop and his storytelling in his prime was elite elite tier. Overtime as he struggled with personal issues ... read more
This album was so fun to listen to in my spare time. The lo fi neo soul production and her vocal range and performances don't slack off. It's unique to me and I enjoyed most tracks on here. Would go back to particular tracks as Cinnamon Temple is one of my favorites. Some of these tracks including that give me an Erykah Badu energy and vibration
This collab was pretty good for what it brought to the table. Conductor doesn't slack on production ever with his sample chopping and choices from r&b vocal inflections to distorted drums. Boldy writing and rapping here is still pretty good with the storytelling. It doesn't have both of their best work on this project but they did not play around still with how they each executed their vision in this short album
Lupe initiating and creating some of the best discographies hip hop has to offer. This is another example of amazing storytelling with sticking to a quirky out of box concept. Definitely one of the best hip hop albums to drop this year. Samurai one of the best songs of the year too with the jazzy lofi Nujabes esque production. Beautiful track. Will love going back to this project throughout the year
This is a good collab project. I thought it would need some features because Yatchy isn't the strongest when it comes to carrying a full tracklist on his own. At least Blake did his part with his vocal harmonies. Production was cinematic and great for the most part. I would like for them to expand more onto the horizons with this sound and be more risk taking like what was done on In Grey and Midnight
All I'm gonna say is this is one of the best displays of musical talent within voice and presence. It's at least a top 10 album for me this year alone. There's some elements of psychedelic music elements and dark eerie aesthetics in soundscape, however they're executed so amazingly. Very happy about this listen and can't wait to continue going back
This recent listen I've done just shows I'm late to the party. One of the best first listens I experienced through the course of the year. Great ideas, some left to be desired and a lot of others were very diverse and palatable. Some of his best performances I've heard from the few stuff I've heard were on here. This does not feel mixtape like, it's like an album with no cohesive concept but a lot of great ideas and just displays a lot of variety of music styles and ... read more
This was a solid album, he really put all of his vision and work onto this album and it showed based on the content matter. However the execution of some of his rapping was subpar in certain instances when he had the ability to capitalize something bigger or something creative. I left wanting more in some tracks but overall album is still solid. Still some good rapping, good production choices and solid feature placements
My favorite album drop of this year personally. This was a grand experience. I even expected it after the FromHere song single release. From Knxwledge exquisite sample chopping and instrumental choices to Anderson Paak having smooth cuts with his voice, whether he's rapping or singing. His voice has been much more palatable over the years and colorful which makes it easy for him to hop on other tracks / features and glide on anything. I'm glad they dropped a project because I've been ... read more
Kylie is some of his best work in a good while. That's just first thing. It's a solid release, but there's a lot of bloat and boring cuts again just like his last few releases. Some of the tracks he doesn't even participate in his own songs and some of the features didn't do good for my experience. Future did his thing though. And Yatchy too. I don't expect him to make a 180 turn of his style, just be more present on his tracks and trim his album songs similar to Gunna issue for his last ... read more
Good project overall, liked it much more than Lovesick. Some of the songs such as Tore Up are some of his best songs to date. Then there was some songs where it didn't capture the atmosphere and sound he was going for. It just fell flat on some cases. Overall the psychedelic rock elements and some of the Tame Impala influences are well calculated. The trap elements worked in some parts and some parts took a bit too much from the overall theme soundscape. Once again, this was still good for the ... read more
This is one of the most surprising post listening experiences I had. The quirky production to her content matter fit so well with what she was envisioning. It was an overall enjoyable album. I gotta continue to listen to it to fully captivate my thoughts because I'm not used to this style of music, but man I like the ideas and vision I listened too
This is like one of my favorite releases on the KPop side of things of this year. It's so captivating and cinematic from the music to even some of the music video drops. Everything flowed well together and the members were so good. For a Loona enjoyer, I can walk out of there with something I can replay consistently through summer and even when the weather starts to get chillier
21 tracks is alot for a Kaytranada album, however there's a lot of versatility of features/sounds to go to. I love this album experience. It's fun and some of the sample chops and scratches were unique and creative. It may not work for everyone but I'm somebody that enjoys some house music quite a bit and the Childish Gambino song is the summer song of this year. That simple
Good thing about Ski in general is his songs aren't overstaying their welcome and I'm so glad he's back in music. Some songs don't seem to fit the direction/vision he went for and the production wasn't as hard hitting as it would've built up from the climatic 808s and other trap elements. That X interlude was pointless and unnecessary to me. If you're gonna include X, don't shoe in some random clip that seemed either unfinished or awkward for a listening experience. This is a solid album coming ... read more
