A real letdown, unfortunately.
Loving the first 3 albums to death, I'm not sure who this was made for. It clearly does nothing for me and it might irritate bigger audiences too.
It's kind of the mixed bag that most double albums inevitably are. It could have been a really great single disc album with some pretty good b-sides though [not considering the b-sides on Similarities, which are great and more adventurous than some of the tracks on here].
Lengthy guitar solos, pompous brass sections, psychedelic flamenco ballads and completely unpredictable song structures is what you will find on this one.
If I Should Go Before You greatly benefits from the decision to steer the songs into a more blues-oriented direction and shows some of Dallas' strongest work to date.
