This album seriously fucking rocks for how unique it sounded for its time.
Who would've thought two guys would come together to make some peak punk music that didn't even sound like punk rock? The heavy reliance on synthesizers, sometimes emulating guitars such as in the bluesy "Johnny" and the rocker "Ghost Rider," creates a sense of pulsating eeriness that still manages to excite me over how catchy these songs can be. I find it really sad how people tend to shit on this album and call it the worst in their discography, when in my honest opinion it is their best effort.
For me, the previous two efforts didn't have the refined hi-fi heavy sound that this record instantly captivated me with. "I Talk to the Wind" opts for a slower direction but shows off the band's ability to apply ... read more
Merzbow proves once more why he is the king of Japanoise with 1930.
You can hear how he makes use of tape manipulation more on this album compared to some of his other opuses around this time. I especially liked the aptly titled "Degradation of Tapes" and the title track, demonstrating the masterful looping and snipping of the noise wall assault he is known to employ. The shorter tracks also provided decent breaks from the lengthy sonic attacks, if you will.
All in all, it's a ... read more
