this album managed to come off as so disingenuous and unsympathetic to me that i’m confident she’s the toxic one, not the people around her that are supposedly fake. if not, then my god, does the final track come off as pretending to be over the past when she really isn’t. i guess i expected better from someone whose parents own a radio station.

yeah, alright. the EP sounds like the “popular” kid’s shot at emo music. volume two fits the first volume thematically, but the first half of the EP executed it worse? the blackbear feature in fmk caught me out of nowhere and featuring the lyrics “maybe i’m a psychopath” made me think: okay. maybe she might be the problem. the follow-up song, ALEX, did little control damage.

i never liked how overplayed abcdefu was and some of the lyrics both in that one and in other songs make me question if the other person was truly the only problem in the relationship. there’s no apparent theme in the EP other than adolescent heartbreak, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing. the chorus of e-z makes me think there’s some form of self-awareness in the writing, but you need to take a step further to really pull it off.

the feeling of performative charity that’s rampant throughout the album aged very poorly. this is like imagine sang by various celebrities during the pandemic, even BEFORE it was a thing. lil dicky must have some sort of charisma and connections for him to get this amount of big-name artists to sing, because this feels like a collaboration without any meaning other than showing that “hey, i know how to get famous people to sing for me!!!”
