Having struggled for the motivation to do a full band discography review I have decided to dig into an era of music that has intrigued me over the last few years. To do this I am using Paste magazine top 50 post punk albums from 1977 to 1987. I loved last years Gil With No Face. The 80s inspired in your face synthpop was full of energy and turned out to be one of the best releases of 2024. The release is more stripped back traditional pop and despite being a decent enough album it does not come close you last years epic. Vocally the album is still very good and production is on point. There are just not enough standout tracks to elevate the album.
Fav Songs - Is Anybody Out There?, Down Season, Reunite
A good album by undoubtedly talented musicians. However, it is less memeroable than theor debut and is very front loaded.
Fav Songs - Angus Dei, Count The Ways, Second Best
A real grower and now one of my favourite albums from the year. Well-constructed tracks with interesting songwriting delivered by great vocals. You can hear the influences when you properly give the album time. Cobra, Getting Killed, Au, Pays du Cocaine and Long Island City Here I Come are real standout tracks, but everything is really good.
Fav Songs - Cobra, Getting Killed, 100 Horses, Au, Pays du Cocaine, Bow Down, Long Island City Here I Come
Really good album that gets deeply personal at times. Florence displays her great vocal ability throughout. The album does stick to a pretty predictable formula but there are plenty of standout tracks to make it captivating.
Fav Songs - One of the Greats, The Old Religion, You Can Have it All
I have been MIA for a while with work and family commitments so I haven't put any reviews done for a while. Im hoping to catch up on the 2025 list.
Ill start with Thrice who have continued by making another solid alt rock album. There is a nice mix of tracks here and the vocals are really good. Vesper Light in particular is a highlight on the album and one of my favourite songs from the year.
Fav Songs - Gnash, The Dark Glow, Vesper Light
