400 FOLLOWERS SPECIAL THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR AGREEING WITH MY GARBAGE TAKES
Abundantly cozy, enchantingly haunting, and unmistakably gorgeous. That’s what this album entails. Nick Drake has such a beautifully hushed delivery that pairs wonderfully with his acoustic guitar. No, wonderfully is an understatement. It pairs perfectly. Drake’s delivery and lyricism has a haunting sense to it once it’s peeled back, and it only becomes more so when you realize that this was his ... read more
Am I still allowed to say I miss Title Fight even though I learned about them merely two years ago? Honestly, I couldn’t care less, for nothing can take away from the fact that they absolutely RIP on this record. I mean, you can HEAR the tightly shut eyes, furrowed brows, gnarled teeth, and overall indignant demeanor that lead vocalist Ned Russin carries into the vast majority of the songs on here. It’s contagious in ways few can emulate, for the aggressive and abrasive backing that ... read more
After finally returning to beautiful open skies following university finals, obviously I’ve needed more music to accompany such a freeing atmosphere. Patty Griffin certainly has more than enough to give in that regard, as from the opening track to close, her soaring delivery and demeanor are impeccable. The simplistic strummed, or even occasionally plucked accompaniment allows Griffin’s voice to truly shine through, with the desire, hopelessness, and sheer gravity that each lyric is ... read more
In my humble and unprofessional opinion, Elton John is always at his best when he leans into his honky tonk side of things. Yes, yes, everyone under the sun knows “Rocket Man,” but the far less discussed opener “Honky Cat” has been playing nonstop in my head for days now, that piano line meshed with the staccato horns and drum fills hits like absolute crack. In addition to these ... read more
At the end of the day, I am just a white boy, one who has the softest spot for Alt-Country. I stumbled upon this project whilst listening to MJ Lenderman for what has to be the millionth time, and because summer is again rapidly approaching, Alternative Country is where I return once more. To start things off, fuck does Katie Crutchfield ever have a fantastic voice, one that conveys subtle tones of despair, disappointment, dissatisfaction, and longing. I most liken her vocal sound and delivery ... read more
Hey y'all, I'm finally back!! It’s been a long time since I’ve found the time and energy to give an entire body of work my time (thank you, college extracurriculars), but few projects are more deserving of that time than that of Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. Starting with stating the obvious, Brian Wilson was a fucking genius. I mean that with every fiber of my being. To say that the musical production is leaps and bounds above all that surrounded this album in the 60s is ... read more
