Playboi Carti - MUSIC
58

Carti enters the album full of promise with a fantastic experimental track that sounds like a perfect progression of the sound he developed on Whole Lotta Red, and then abandons that for the rest of the album. Pretty good metaphor for his career really

Bassvictim - Basspunk
79

The kind of record that defines an entire genre for the foreseeable future. Absolutely excellent

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard - Y Proffwyd Dwyll
85

Mammoth weed wizard bastard deliver a soul crushingly atmospheric and just overall incredible album. Perhaps a bit too short, with a few too many dead spots compared to their more recent releases, but worthy of a listen and still a fantastic doom record

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
98

OH MY GOD

Danny Brown delivers a powerhouse of an album. One of the closest to perfection records I've ever listened to. Amazing production that brings out Danny's fantastically unique voice, incredible features, great subtle storytelling, only let down by a few weaker moments. Absolutely one of the greatest albums ever created. Just listen to it.

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
75

GNX has some of Kendricks best, and some of Kendricks weakest. A clear vision is lacking throughout what is essentially a glorified victory lap, on the one hand you have the absolutely superb Reincarnated, and then you have not just one, but 2 lackluster SZA features and a needless to say strange selection of both beats and vocal inflections. It's grown on me since release, but it's still weaker than most of Kendricks efforts.

Bladee - Cold Visions
90

Bladee proves himself as a true king of the underground with a fantastic rage inspired record, a must listen album and one of the best this year has to offer

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
85

Undeniably fantastic, but for me it falls a bit flat with some of the more pretentious cuts. For Free? has a place in the albums story, but for me it comes off as pretentiously overdone with its admittedly fantastic jazz beat, but bizarre and out of place vocal inflections compared to the rest of the album as a whole.

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES
90

You scare the hoes by playing this album, I scare them simply by existing, we are NOT the same.

Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite
86

Cattle Decap prove themseles as one of the greatest to ever do it, delivering time and time again, with an outstandingly fantastic concept album of sorts delivering Travis Ryan's most complete vocal performance to date. Relentlessly heavy, incredibly gruesome and the best metal album of 2023

Sunami - SUNAMI (L.P.)
79

Sunami singelhandedly saving modern hardcore with an incredibly punky and fresh take on a genre we've all heard. Super fun music all around and makes me want to start a pit

Denzel Curry - King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2
82

Denzel Curry effortlessly flexes his immense songwriting talent in a mindless album full of banger, after banger, after banger. In the words of Curry himself "I used to smart talk but now I had to dumb it down". Great features with relative unknowns standing out across the board. Super super fun.

A must listen album, but don't expect anything like TA13OO or Melt, it's something different, and what his catalogue needed.

Infant Annihilator - Mister Sister Fister: Re Conception
75

Infant Annihilator borrows some excellent songwriting from a near forgotten side project, and brings the Plaguefather (and my favourite metal vocalist) ALEX TEYEN in. A truly monolithic record, but lacking some of the excessive emotional connection that was present in Alex's previous work, which makes sense. A very Infant Annihilator record, but still fun and worth a listen. I think this just proves more than anything the world just needs more black tongue

Charli xcx - BRAT
87

Charli XCX fully embraces the party girl inside of us all and delivers hit, after hit, after hit in an incredibly fun celebration of British dance music.

Knocked Loose - You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To
24

Knocked Loose go heavier, and more generic, with their latest release. Something definitely transitioned between teh Upon Loss Singles and this record, and in my eyes, for the worse. Losing the hard hitting hardcore edge, and embracing the mindless beatdown of the weaker parts of their song structure. Gone are the catchy grooves and interesting song structures, and in are a more generic sound and feel that somehow went without criticism. As someone who considered themselves damn near a superfan ... read more

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
93

There's just something about this record that touches you so deeply. Emotionally present and hard hitting record with great instrumental work and simply a masterpiece.

Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard - The Harvest
96

Atmospheric mastery in a new kind of Doom metal, the ultimate pay off for the gradual rise of MMWB as a true force in underground modern metal. Whilst this record will always be overshadowed by the tragedy following its completion, it stands tall and proud as a truley monolithic release that I hope will one day get the respect it oh so greatly deserves.

Black Tongue - Nadir
99

It's hard to put an album experience like Black Tongue's monumental Nadir into words without either sounding pretentious or insufferable. The level of mastery in this record is something the world of blackened doom metal almost definitely won't see again. From the spectacular production of standouts like the Celtic Frost cover A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh and Black Fawn Temple, the raw emotion of Alex Teyen's vocal performances and superb lyricism, all the way to the ... read more

The Acacia Strain - Failure Will Follow
97

A masterpiece in doom metal, and one of the all time greats. Slowly building anticipation, with each song feeling too short (and all of them are over 10 minutes!!!), Acacia Strain show their personal side and demolish the competition when it comes to Sludgey, Grungey Doom Metal. A real shock of a record coming from mostly a metal anthem band that truly borders perfection.

Danny Brown - Quaranta
93

A deeply mature and personal record, and exceeds XXX in every concievable way for me. Incredibly special record that will always hold a place in my heart. For anyone going through relationship trouble, self loathing or just simply want some softer introspective hip hop. This album is one I'd the best you could possibly listen to.
