Tyler Ballgame’s debut album is lush, stylish, and scratches a certain itch that always hits the spot for me. The 70s folk singer-songwriter vibe would carry a weaker album to the finish line but with Tyler’s strong songwriting chops (both lyrically and musically), it acts as a support instead of a crutch. Lots of really good stuff on here even if it fizzles out a bit towards the end (luckily, Olivia Rodrigo's cover of "The Book of Love" comes in right at the end and saves the day as one of the best tracks on the album). I loved the first handful of tracks, Depeche Mode's banger, Fontaines D.C.'s all-timer cover of an all-timer song, and Cameron Winter's haunting new sound. Definitely a fun little genre blend, but Lime Garden's new album unfortunately doesn't do enough to stand out from the pack. They've got a good sound and I bet they've got a great stage presence when they perform live, but there isn't all that much that sets them apart from other indie rockers in the 2020s. I look forward to listening to what they do next, though!
Baby Rose's voice is unreal, especially paired with the musical talent of BADBADNOTGOOD. What a lovely little soul album.
A legendarily fantastic folk album. Judee Sill's warm voice brings so much to her already rich compositions and lyrics.
