TL;DR - Spiderland is an album about many things. It’s about growing up and missing the life you once had. It’s about feeling out of place with the new life that you’re currently leading. And it’s also about feeling alone in your new life, even if maybe you shouldn’t. But to boil this album down to a few themes and describe its overall sound does not do it ... read more
TL;DR - With their Warp Records debut, Boards of Canada managed to redefine electronic music as we knew it in one fell swoop. Pulling from a wide array of influences, all originating from the burgeoning UK electronic scene at the time, the duo of Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin put their own unique spin on things, and in the process made the defining album of their careers. 9/10
With Boards of Canada releasing a new album tonight, I thought now would be a good time to highlight my favorite ... read more
TL;DR - With their latest record (and the first of two in 2026), Converge return with their first solo record since 2017's The Dusk in Us. And with that, they bring forth their fastest, most direct set of tracks since the early 2000s. Despite its brevity, the album has no shortage of bangers, and Converge continues to prove why they are the greatest metal band of the 21st Century. 8.5/10

Simply put, Punk does not get more punk than this compilation of Minor Threat's first two EPs, their self-titled and In My Eyes. Featuring vocalist Ian Mackaye (later of Fugazi fame), Minor Threat would grow to become one of the most influential bands in hardcore punk history, and I feel like this record perfectly encapsulates why. Though this collection of 14 songs doesn't even take up more than 20 minutes, it sure leaves quite the impact, and I'd say the record's overall ... read more
Legendary producer and electronic music pioneer Oneohtrix Point never returns with one of his best records to date. OPN has been on quite the run in recent times, most recently producing much of the Weeknd's last 3 albums. This includes a role as the executive producer of my favorite Weeknd album, Dawn FM. Built almost entirely on the back of soundpack CD archives, Tranquilizer carries the nostalgic sound that many fans have come to know him for. Apart from a pretty clear split at the ... read more
Neu! '75 is absolutely one of the best Krautrock albums of all time, and also serves as a nice sample platter for all the things that the genre has to offer. The opener, Isi, is a beautifully crafted track, with shimmering electric keys that are complemented by standard piano keys, which lie nicely on top of the traditional "Motorik" 4/4 rhythm that became the defining element of bands like Neu! and Can in the early to mid-70s. Seeland is more of an ambient track, with a ... read more
