I listened to this album twice. I regret that I wasted 80 minutes of my life on this thing. It isn't bad, don't get me wrong. It has melody, rhythm, funk. It has a diverse mixture of jazz, funk, pop, and soul. The album is pretty much homogenous and consistent, it just doesn't sound that different from the other very popular, very mainstream music from its time. It sounds like most of those easy listening, funky disco songs from the 70s that gained much popularity when it was ... read more
Aggressive, raw, political. Exactly what I needed.

It feels Green Day was trying to be like Rage Against the Machine, but failed miserably. A few of the songs on here are good and sound fine when you hear them individually. As a whole album, it is all just okay. Not good, just okay.
Whiny Trumper. If you want to wear the red hat just wear it. If you want country, I recommend:

-Dolly Parton
-Willy Nelson
-Townes Van Zandt

The album sounds decent, it just doesn't quite top the sound of Ants From Up There. It still has a catch, it's just...okay.

One of the greatest hip hop records of all time. Definitely the best and most profound political/conscious hip hop record out there. I feel this album becomes more and more relevant as the years go on. 10 years later, the message from this record is very fitting to the current (American) climate right now. The album is also woven with so many textures of hip hop, soul, funk, and jazz. Also love the note that David Bowie used this album for his inspiration in Blackstar. Bowie is one of my ... read more
You could probably see why I would rate this album a 100. Seriously, this album is the first (and best) prog rock. A great, textured, emotional album with a deep political message.
Favorite tracks: All of them!
Wow, this album expresses a feeling of a cold, empty, dystopian capitalist hellscape. Sadly, I wish this was still a fantasy...

Velvet Underground's first and greatest album

After hearing the news of Brian Wilson's passing, I just had to revisit this album. I first listened to this album about a year ago, and I enjoyed it on a first listen. I found it fun, whimsical, and catchy. Nothing more, and nothing less. However, after listening to the album again, I can finally see the substance and emotion in this album, beyond just the catchy nature of the music. The album touches on the themes of love and being young (which is prominent in the first track ... read more
